Chapter Seven

I sit on the soft grass in the middle of a field, playing with an icicle in my hand.

All this power, and I couldn't do anything to save him.

All this control of water and ice, yet he was buried in water and ice.

A loud explosion like sound echoes behind me, but I ignore it. I'd know that sound anywhere. My brother is coming to get me.

"Ran," he says. "It's time to come home."

That's my real name, Ran. I hate it.

I turn around and look up at Thor Odinson, my real brother.

"I couldn't do anything," I mutter, and look back down at the ground.

He gives me a sympathetic look, "And it's not your fault."

I shake my head, "It is my fault! I survived and he didn't!"

"Are you sure he didn't?"

I look up at him again, my eyes wide. "What do you mean?"

"He's still alive Ran, just frozen."

I smile "It worked! My plan worked! I put a shield of ice around him as we crashed. I thought it would help, and it did. But he's going to be frozen for eternity."

Thor gives me a sad look, "I'm sorry Ran, I truly am. But we have to go."

I wipe a tear from my eye, and take the hand he has held out to me. He pulls me up, and into a tight embrace.

"You'll see him again sister, you will. Do not fret."

I pull back, and look at him, a frown in my face. "I hope, but it's unlikely. Unless the humans find him. I cannot tamper here anymore than I already have."

"Then the humans will find him Ran. But for now, it's time to come home."

I sigh, and let him lead me to where he used the bifrost to get here. The rainbow colors hit us, and take us back to Asgard.

I guess that's ok for now, I have questions for my father.

The frown on my face turns into a glare. Something happened to be, something relating to the Tesseract and they never told me.

The second we make it back to Asgard, I march right up to the palace and Odin.

"What the hell did you do to me?" I exclaim as I enter the thrown room.

"Ran, so nice to see you," Odin says to me.

"Cut the crap," I snap. "What did you do to me?"

"You've been spending too much time on Earth dear. I've done nothing to you."

"Stop lying to me!" I scream.

He sighs, "Calm down child, it was to save your life."

My eyes widen, "What?"

"You were born a few minutes after your brother."

I nod, "I know, he's never let me forget it."

"Well there were some... complications... with your birth. You were going to die, there was no question about it. Frigga wasn't about to lose her precious daughter. We tried everything within our power to save you, but nothing worked. She was so distraught, I couldn't stand seeing her like that. And you were my little girl too.

"So I did something I've regretted to this day. I was blinded by grief and love. I tapped into the Tesseract's energy to save you. And it worked, clearly. At first there were no side affects, you were perfectly normal. We started seeing small things at first, you were faster and stronger than your brothers. You had better control over your powers of water than your brothers had over theirs. But it turned from just more to control, to more power, and then to more lethal power. You're not cursed my dear, just more powerful."

How could he? How could he do that? I would rather die than be attached to that object.

"Why could I feel the Tesseract and its power?"

"You're connected to it, whether we like it or not."

I close my eyes, and let out a deep breath.

This is too much for one day.

"We can fight this together."

I look up at my father, and a small smile creeps on my face. "Together."

Except I don't intend to do anything except wait. Humans are adventurous, they enjoy finding new places and new things. They'll find him, eventually.

And when they do, I'll be here, waiting to return to my rightful place on Earth.

Waiting.
