It was from his ex girlfriend, they'd been texting recently and Dan had the intentions of getting back together with her. I scrolled through the texts and dans reply read "I think I've met someone else. I'm sorry, I think it's time we both move on."

Katie had replied with

"Dan, I don't know how to put this but..I've been seeing someone else for quite a while now. You're right, you should move on and I'm so happy for you. Good luck, love always-K"

Dan didn't stop his tears for what felt like hours, then he muffled something into my chest.

Clearing the lump out of my throat I whispered

"What lovely?"

"I'm so sorry" he replied, his voice booming into the emptiness in my chest. I couldn't help but realise it wasn't me Dan fell for, it was the idea of moving on. he was rebounding.

I lifted his head from my shoulder and kissed his cheek.

I strolled towards the door, tears streaming

"Goodbye", I choked.
