Chapter 1
Knock, knock.
I frowned as I walked towards the door. Boxes were spread around the house as it was my first day moving in. I opened the door with a smile as I smiled at a pretty lady in front of me. I tilted my head as a name appeared making my mind dizzy. It couldn't be...
"Hi, I'm Elena. I'm your neighbour." She smiled as I eased slightly and shook her hand.
"I'm Scarlet." I introduced myself back as she beamed.
"It's nice to meet you and I'm sure we won't disturb you much." She giggled as I laughed too.
"I'm sure we'll be great neighbours." I never knew how much six words could do so much.
"Well, my bother and I are having a few friends around for dinner tonight, if you would like to join? That's if you'd like a break from unpacking." She offered politely as I thought about it. What was the harm?
"I'll think about it." I replied as she smiled.
"Well, it's around 5pm so just pop round whenever." She waved me goodbye as I waved back before closing the door after she left.
I turned around to the sight of the boxes looking like mountains as I sighed. Maybe a dinner wouldn't be so bad...
A few hours later...
"I'm so glad you came." Elena smiled as I saw a frown on a guy's face who was standing next to him.
"Oh, Jeremy, this is our new neighbour." Elena introduced him to me as I introduced myself back. The frown had disappeared as I kept standing outside.
"Are you coming in?" Elena asked as I totally forgot. I laughed nervously as I leaned against the doorframe.
"Yeah just... a minute... you know I think I left the lights on in my house." I turned to leave before her voice stopped me.
"Are you a... a vampire?"
Damn.
I turned back 'round as I shrugged and nodded. Jeremy frowned as Elena looked at me weary. Maybe we wouldn't get on well...
"You know what, never mind about dinner." I huffed, feeling judged as I turned away and left. As I walked down her porch steps I looked up as someone walked up her path. We both stopped and looked at each other.
"Scarlet?" Damon looked shocked at my appearance as I looked back.
"Damon..." I muttered as I looked at him, the idiot sod hadn't changed a bit. He gave me a once over too as we didn't utter anything else to each other. I glanced at Elena and Jeremy one last time as they both looked at me with sympathy in their eyes. I rolled my eyes at them as I brushed past Damon and walked off.
