"Brooke, just give it to me straight. Don't try sparing my feelings or anything," I said trying to control my breathing, I could already feel the tears starting to burn from behind my eyes.
"If you're talking about the Cassidy I think you're talking about, then that's his older sister. Out of all of his sisters, that's who he's closest to. She's twenty six, really really gorgeous, takes after their mom more than their dad, dark blonde hair, blue eyes, great bone structure, she's so sweet. She's his go to for advice, they have one of the closest relationships I've ever seen but she moved to New York a few years ago, so they haven't seen each other since," she said, the concern and anger in her eyes was still there even though she talked about Cassidy with with warmth.
"Okay, okay fine. She's great, she sounds great, but why do you have that look on your face?" I asked, I was more nervous than I've ever been in my whole life.
"How did you hear about the two of them?" she asked, taking my hand and then pulling me to sit on one of the wooden benches lined up.
"I kind of overheard him talking to Cassidy on the phone, I think he was talking about bringing me home to meet his family but I'm not completely sure," I said, as I turned to her and she put my hands in both of hers.
"Okay, and what exactly did he say about Amber?" she asked, as if the information would make or break me and I tried to rattle my brain for his exact words.
"He said something like, of course he didn't tell me about her. Now who is she?" I asked, my stomach was clenching up the way it usually would when I was nervous, and my palms were beginning to sweat.
"Okay, I'm just going to give it to you straight," she said before taking a deep breath.
"Please do," I replied.
"Amber is Hunter's ex girlfriend, the first girl he ever really fell in love with and the first girl to ever break his heart. They had their future all planned out, they were supposed to come here together and then start off their life with each other. The thing that Hunter was blindsided by was the fact that she was literally the most physically attractive human being to ever walk the planet, like no joke. She was like a victoria secrets angel hybrid, long dark hair, bright blue eyes, the perfect body, envied by nearly every girl at school and wanted by nearly every guy. The truth is she was a huge brat, a total bitch, that's why Hunter and I weren't as close when we got here. I called her out on it, almost everyone did but he just refused to believe it," she explained, and it kind of hit me like a ton of bricks for whatever reason.
"Why'd they break up?" I managed to ask, but my heart was pounding fiercely, so hard that I could hear it in my ears.
"Only Amber can really answer that question," she sighed, and I frowned.
"So, what am I? A rebound or something," I asked, looking up at her.
Things had been going way too good way too fast and I shook my head, I mean sure obviously she wasn't around; but I had this strong feeling that somehow I didn't stand a candle to her.
"No no, he doesn't do those. You're real and so is what he feels for you, you're much better than any of the previous girls that he's dated. He never smiled with them the way he does with you, I promise you have nothing to worry about. It's not like she's coming back or anything, I heard she ended up going to Oxford or Cambridge." She said, and she squeezed my hand as if she could feel my tension.
"What am I supposed to do? Go in there and act like I don't know a thing? I mean, why wouldn't he want me to know about her?" I asked, I had so many questions and so little answers.
