Chapter 10
Brooke's POV
"Kill me now," I said once I reached Lani, Michelle, and KD crowded around KD's locker after math class.
"What now?" asked KD while searching for something in her locker.
"Mrs. Luno is making us do this project and Ryder's my partner!" I faked happiness. "And now he's taking me to his house and we're working on the project tonight." All three girls gave each other secretive smiles. "What?"
"Do you know how cliché that is?" Michelle asked.
"What are you talking about?" I questioned.
"You guys like each other. This is perfect!" Lani squealed.
"I do NOT like him. You guys are fucking insa-" Derek cut me off.
"Are you an astronaut because your ass is out of this world," he asked KD.
"No, I'm a baseball player because my ass is way out of your league," she rolled her eyes. That's my KD. "You are so weird..." she mumbled. Now that right there would be a cute couple.
Derek shook off the insult and asked what we were talking about. "Ryder's brining Brooke to his house because they're partners," KD explained.
"Partners, huh?" Derek wiggled his eyebrows at me.
I flipped him off, which I seem to do to people a lot. I can see my resume now. Q: What do you do in your free time? A: Flip people off and read pathetic bad boy romance stories that aren't true.
"Fuck you," I laughed quietly as
I turned on my heel and walked in the direction towards my locker.
"That's Ryder's job, not Derek's!" Michele called after me.
I need new friends...
Guess who was standing at my locker waiting for me? Ryder. I really don't want to do this assignment with him. I know if we were in a book, we'd end up falling in love. But this is real life. There's not many fairy tales in reality. My life is definitely not one. But I guess if life was perfect then I wouldn't appreciate things very much.
"Ready?" Ryder asked once I closed my locker.
"As ready as I'll ever be," I muttered under my breath which made Ryder chuckle. Stupid, sexy chuckle.
Ryder opened the door to walk out of school and instead of holding it open like I thought he'd do (why? I don't know), he let it slam in my face. "Asshole..."
"Here, let me help you with that," a guys voice said from behind me as he reached around and propped open the door so I could walk through.
"Uh, thanks?" I practically asked once we walked outside to a Ryder laughing his ass off. Screw him. Figuratively.
"No problem. It's not nice to let a door slam in the face of such a beautiful girl," the guy glanced at Ryder when he said that and made me blush.
I took in this pretty darn cute guy standing beside me. Now I sound like Lani. Anyways, he had brown hair (matching his eyes) that was styled upwards. Freckles ran over the bridge of his nose. Very cute.
"Um...thanks..."
"You're very welcome," Cute Guy answered.
Ryder had stopped laughing and glared at him. "Come on Brooke. Let's go."
