Chapter 2
Brooke's POV
I gave a small, sad smile. "It's fine, Ryder." I turned back around and walked into the living room. I could hear Ryder's footsteps behind me. It really is fine, he didn't know. And he apologized which I didn't expect at all. Maybe's he's not as big of an ass as I thought...
"So, Lani. I was, um, uh...I uh," Wriley hesitated. Ooo, I want to hear this. Wriley and Lani were sitting on the couch facing each other. Lani had her legs pulled up to her chest, and Wriley's legs were stretched out to the right of her. I sat on the ground in front of my long leather couch, criss-cross applesauce and put my chin in my hands. My elbows rested on my knees.
Derek laughed and sat next to me copying my position. "I want to hear this," he leaned over whispered to me.
"I was just thinking that," I whispered back. Lani looked down at us and tried to nudge me away with her foot. "No, no. I want to hear this," I gave her my most innocent smile. She rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to Wriley. I think we made him more nervous. Oh well!
"Wouldyouliketogoonadatewithmetomorrownight?" Wriley rushed his words together. I didn't understand. From the looks on Lani and Derek's face, they didn't understand either. I looked around me to see if anyone else understood, let alone was listening. Ryder was sitting in my favorite chair playing on his phone, paying no attention to anyone around him. Michelle and Alex laid on their stomach's next to each other in front of the window. Alex held his phone limp in his hands. Was he showing her something? They were both fixed on Wriley. Wriley is probably even more nervous now that he's gotten everyones attention. Well, almost everyone.
"What? I couldn't understand you," Lani said. I could tell she felt bad.
Wriley took a deep breath, "Would you like to go on a date with me tomorrow night?" My smile matched Lani's and I'm sure Michelle's too. H-U-G-E. I shook Derek's arm in excitement, smiling at him. Derek chuckled and gave me a quick side hug.
"Hey, Lani!" I smacked her arm. "Answer him before I answer for you." I could hear Michelle laugh.
"Y-yes. Of course," Lani exclaimed. "I've been waiting for this forever," she quietly said, breathing out. I don't think she meant to say that out loud, though because when Wriley answered with a "me too", Lani blushed and said "Oops."
I laughed and clapped my hands. "You guys! I'm so happy for you!" I could barely say that with all the excitement I was holding.
"Me too!" Michelle said getting up as I did. Our eyes locked as a silent plan passed between us. In a flash I grabbed Lani under her arms and Michelle grabbed her legs. We maneuvered Our way up the stairs, into my room. It was hard though because Lani kept squirming and yelling at us to put her down. We could still here the laughter of the boys, er-except the phone-freak, Ryder.
We threw Lani onto my bed. The second Michelle closed the door we started jumping up and down screaming our heads off. "IT'S A DREAM COME TRUE!!!!!!!" Lani screamed.
"THIS IS AMAZING!!!! OH MY GOD I'M SO FRICKING EXCITED!!!!!" I yelled at the top of my lungs.
"HOLY CRAP THIS IS SO FRICKIN AWESOME!!!!" Michelle screamed, matching our loudness. We joined hands in a circle jumping up and down like little girls.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" All three of us yelled in complete happiness. We each did our own version of a happy dance. Lani's consisted of her index fingers pointing out jabbing the air, while dancing around in a circle. Michelle's was a bunch of random dance moves (one including shimmying shoulders). I rotated my arms outward from the left to the right while my shacking my hips. Our screaming hadn't stopped. Complete girled-out moment (which doesn't happen for me very often).
I jumped when my door started rattling. We shut up. I opened it right as Derek's fist pounded on my nose. I winced from the burning pain as my eyes automatically filled with water. I covered my nose for two second but then they were useless; my hands completely bloody. "Damnit! I am so sorry, Brooke."
"It's fine," I told Derek then rushed down the stairs turning right, into my kitchen. Blood dripped on my shirt and onto the ground. I ran over to the sink and let the blood flow without making a huge mess.
Before I knew it, everyone was in the kitchen surrounding me.
Including Ryder.
"Are you okay?" Lani and Michelle rushed up to me, each on either side.
"Peachy-keen," I said sarcastically.
Ryder pulled Lani away from the spot next to me, replacing her. I could hear her protest but Ryder ignored it. Ryder tilted my head back; his right hand in the back of my head, his left hand on my chin. His left hand removed from it's place as he very lightly touched my nose. I pulled away. "Fuck!" Damn, that hurt like hell.
"I-I didn't mean to hurt you," Ryder said.
"It's fine." I pinched my nostrils.
Derek took Michelle's spot, but was nicer while doing so. "Brooke, it was a compl-"
Ryder rushed around me and pinned Derek up against the wall. I watched in shock as Ryder growled, "Why the hell would you do that to her!?" He swung his fist forward giving Derek what will be a black eye tomorrow. "How does that feel!? Not as bad as how you hurt her!!!"
I could feel everyone stiffen behind me.
Since no one was gonna do anything, I rushed towards them. Ryder brought his arm back, about to strike again. "Ryder, stop!" I yelled grabbing his arm (which has impressive muscles, I must say). My shirt's now covered in blood.
Ryder turned to me letting go of Derek. His eyes were filled with rage. "He fucking hurt you!" Ryder yelled. I stepped back and let go of his arm. Holy shit, he's scary.
"It was a complete accident. I was pounding on your door because you guys were insanely loud and couldn't hear me knocking the first million times. I was trying to tell you that we could hear everything you guys were screaming. I really didn't mean to hurt you, at all. In any way," Derek apologized.
I could see the anger defuse out of Ryder's eyes since his gaze never left mine. He continued to look at me as he said, "I apologize Derek. I thought you purpously hurt her." Why would he care so much anyways? No one ever cares that much about me.
"I would never do that," Derek sounded pissed. "Now I'm gonna have a black eye."
Ryder looked at Derek breaking our eye contact. "I already apologized. And it's better then having a broken nose." My nose is broke? Damn it.
They glared at each other while Lani brought me a crap-load of kleenexes that finally stopped the bleeding, and Michelle brought me a sweatshirt to wear instead of my now-ruined shirt.
"Do you have a car or something?" Ryder asked me once him and Derek finished their "stare off".
"Um, my brother left his motorcycle here," I said confused.
"I'm driving you to the hospital. Grab the keys, let's go." Ryder walked out my back door and I looked at Michelle and Lani in shock. Hospitals are one of my biggest fears. That's where my dad took his last breathes. With my stomach in knots, and blinking back the tears, I followed Ryder with the keys.
I hopped onto the back of the bike with my helmet on with ease. I've had plenty of practice. It's my favorite way of transportation. I held on right to Ryder's abdomen and he took off down the street. I let the tears go because he wouldn't see them through my helmet. Please help me, Dad. I don't want to go here.
After pulling into the parking lot, I pulled myself together as we made our way to the hospital doors. The whole ride has been silent and not exactly the comfortable one either.
We were only a phew feet from walking in when panic finally took me over. I felt very weak.
Everything went black as I gave out.
