Shane's POV
I edge my way through the pack, trying to find the Alpha. My eyes scan over heads, trying to locate him. I swear and sit down on a tree stump, realising he is probably currently on a hunt. A hang my head close my eyes. It's just a matter of time before the vampires find us. That is of course if she is telling the truth.
Her
The human who won't even give me her name.
Two hands slam down on my shoulders and my attacker shouts at me. I leap to my feet, extending my leg quickly so it connects with their chest. The person falls backwards, crashing down into a heap on the ground. I lower my hands as I realise I just attacked my best friend. He coughs, clutching his chest.
"Jesus Christ, Shane. Remind me not to scare you again." He says. I climb over the log, reaching a hand down to him.
"Sorry, man." He takes my hand, letting me pull him up from the ground. He brushes the dirt off his clothing.
"What's got you so jumpy?" I look around us, making sure nobody is listening to our conversation.
"I need to talk to you." I start walking through the trees, distancing ourselves from the pack. He trails after me, sticks snapping under his feet. When I think we are far enough I stop, turning to face him.
"So what's up?"
"It wasn't the hunter that killed Bo." His face suddenly hardens, sensitive about the talk of his recently deceased little sister.
"She had an arrow in her skull, Shane." His words are firm, I bend my elbows ninety degrees, trying to calm him down.
"I know, but the hunter mercy killed her."
"How do you know this?" He snaps, angry while grieving. This is exactly how he was when his parents were killed.
"She was murdered by vampires, Dan." his eyes widen, shock taking over the anger.
"That's breaking the treaty. Why would they do that?"
"No idea, but we need to find Alpha." Dan shakes his head.
"He is on a hunt, we won't see him until later tonight." I run a hand through my hair.
"We won't be able to fight off anything without them. Some of our best fighters are out there."
"They are looking for the the hunter." My throat closes. The hunter, my mate.
They better not hurt her
"I'll go find them." I say with a firm nod "You keep an eye out for any danger. Tell Sam and Luke, they will be able to help keep a look out."
"Alpha started the search for the hunter in the West. I'll take care of things down here. Don't worry." I give him a smile.
"I know. You got this." I slowly shift into my wolf form, turning and running as fast as I can to the west. My silver coat moves makes me look agile and free as I glide through the trees.
The vampires will be on us soon.
And they have basically declared war.
••••••••
As I sprint through the woods I see Alpha and his men. I run up to them, skidding to a stop in front of him. I shift into my human form and everyone else does the same.
"Alpha. The vampires are here." He shakes his head slowly.
"They aren't meant to arrive for two months."
"Well they are here now. They were the ones who killed Bo." One of the other men speak up;
"That explains the multiple footprints, Alpha." The man in front of me suddenly goes cold. His eyes angry and fists clenched. I am used to my father bearing that look. Being Alpha of the pack has made him hard.
"Well then they are after war. And that's what they will get." He turns to his men "Lets go back! We must fight for our people!" They all howl angrily and shift into wolves, running towards the pack.
"Thank you for believing me." He nods simply.
"Hope you aren't wrong about this, boy." He rolls his shoulders and morphs into a wolf, running after the others. I follow them, eager to get back to the group.
Hopefully my mate is safe
