CHAPTER TWO
Practice was hell for me, Harry is good, too good.
I started walking out of the rink, I was mad as hell, he's gonna get my spot I just know he will. I started biting my nails, I only do it when I'm nervous like I and now. I hadn't noticed when my best friend Hunter ran to catch up with me.
"Mac? Earth to Mac, MacKayla!" He yelled, I jumped from surprise. "Oh sorry what were you saying?" I asked him, Hunter is tall and blonde nice looking, he's like a brother to me. "I said it really hurt when that new guy checked me from behind, I hit my shoulder against the wall." I turned my head and watched as Hunter rotated his shoulder, he winced at the pain. "Hey you coming home with me tonight?" I asked, Hunter usually spends most of his time at my house watching hockey and talking about it with my dad and grandad.
"Oh sure, I'll call my dad when I get there so he'll know where I am." I just nodded not really paying much attention to what he said after that. I have to figure out how to up my game, my position on the team means to much to lose to some guy who popped out of nowhere.
'How are you gonna up your game? You've seen him play.'
My thoughts over run my mind, rolling around like lost marbles.
'Theres got to be a way right?' I thought back, I continued to bite at my nails.
'You don't stand a chance, he's gonna get your spot and all you'll be is the weak link who couldn't even keep a position on a hockey team.'
Sometimes my thoughts can be a real bitch, I decided to block them out and focus on how I can get better.
After about 10 minutes of Hunter rambling on about practice we walked in the front door of my cozy two-story house, the smell of my dad's cooking filled the warm air. "Dad we're home!" I yelled, I threw my hockey gear down by the door leaving it for later when I would have to drag up the stairs to my room. "I'm in the kitchen!" He yelled back, Hunter and I made our way through the house to the back where our kitchen was at.
"How was practice sport?" My dad asked, I just groaned. "Coach Carson brought in a backup player for right wing and made Mac sit out of today's practice." Hunter explained, my dad squinted at me and I rolled my eyes not wanting to talk about it right now. "So Hunter did you call your dad and let him know your here?" My dad looked at Hunter from over his shoulder. "Oh! I gotta do that!" Hunter ran out to the living room where his bag was.
"So coach Carson is replacing you now?" I groaned once again. "Please dad, he isn't replacing me, he's just being...cautious incase I get hurt, you know wouldn't want your only daughter getting hurt." I pointed out. I looked at my nails and started to chew, I hate this habit, all it does is piss my mom off.
"Stop biting!" Hunter's voice made me jump. "Don't yell like that! You almost made me fall off the chair." I whined, Hunter rolled his eyes and laughed at me. "My dad said he's working late tonight." This just means that Hunter will most likely crash on my couch and bum around my house for the rest of the week. "Surprise surprise.." My dad mumbled, he hates Hunter's dad because he's never there for Hunter.
"Let's go upstairs." I say, hopping off of the chair. We walked out of the kitchen and ran upstairs, once we got to my room I shut the door. "So what are you going to do about the whole thing with coach?" Hunter asked, I plopped on my bed and stared at the ceiling. "Honestly I have no clue, I'm afraid I'll get replaced." I groaned. "I'm sure I won't get replaced coach is just being cautious right?" I asked, honestly I'm not sure what coach is doing.
"Oh he's definitely replacing you Mac I mean come on, he knows the dudes mom so he was obviously scouting." Hunter always knows how to make me feel better, note the sarcasm. "Shut up Hunter, if anyone should be replaced it should be you. Your a horrible goalkeeper." I shot at him, he put his hands up in defense as he started twirling in my desk chair. "I'm just saying Mac you need to watch your back, this Styles guy, he's good." I groaned, I reached for my pillow and put over my face before screaming as loud as I could. I'm allowed a few actual teen girl moments. I can't get replaced, I need to find this guys weakness. I need to find it and use it against him.
'Oh now you want to play dirty? You've never done that.' Here she goes again, that stupid little voice inside my head.
'Its the only way to get to him..' I thought back, or is it?
