Mizuo Ryugami was living just outside of Domino City when Zero Reverse happened. She survived the blast through sheer luck, but her family died - just like her favorite duelists, Seto Kaiba and Yugi Moto. With nothing left, she wandered the shatter...

(In case you're curious, this is my rendition of the kanji for Ryugami's name. I know it sucks, but I did my best. BTW, the plot has officially really begun for this book! A brand-new, very important character is here. And, even better, the dueling begins in this chapter too! See, I reward the ones who can make it through the boring parts. However, this chapter will also be long. I hope that, in exchange, it is more enjoyable!)
(Also, just as an aside, I really like this chapter name. It'll make more sense later. )
Even in her sleep, Mizuo sensed someone's presence. A person had just come into the room, and all of her senses tingled in alarm.
Her eyes flying open with a sudden burst of fearful adrenaline, Mizuo started out of her sleeping bag, hands fumbling for her gun. She didn't kill anyone, but she wasn't going down without a fight either.
A few feet away, a young man crouched on the ground, his eyes wide with fear. He looked just as surprised and scared as Mizuo herself, and scrambled away nervously as she lifted her pistol. He didn't seem like a gang member, as he was wearing the faded blue pajamas of a hospital patient, and didn't have any weapons. He was very pale and thin, with long black hair framing his face erratically. This accentuated the deep blue of his eyes, midnight shadows against his white skin.
"Who are you?" Mizuo snarled, now more curious than afraid. But he didn't have to know that.
"I-I'm no one." He stammered. "I mean, I live here, in this hospital. I'm sorry, I hope I didn't frighten you. I promise, I don't mean you any harm. I can't hurt you anyway, and I won't do anything to your gang, either. It's just that I have nowhere to go, and no family, and I stay here so I can use what medicine I have left. I won't hurt you, or anyone, really, I won't." He held up his empty hands, trembling all over.
Mizuo lowered her gun with an unbelieving snort. Obviously this kid thought that she was part of the local gangs. "He's survived here since Zero Reverse as a loner? That's crazy." Out-loud, she said, "I'm not part of a gang either, kid. I'm just passing through." That was sort of a lie. She had intended to stay here until the city was re-built. But since her bunker had been stolen, her plans had been massively disrupted. However, she would cross that bridge when she came to it.
"I won't hurt you, as long as I can be pretty sure that you can't hurt me." She continued to dominate the conversation. The timid boy merely flinched and nodded, not even protesting.
"Yeah, yeah. Of course. Seriously, I'm too weak to do anything anyway, I mean it." He continued emphatically. "Please, can I get you some food? There's, umm, a microwave, and a freezer, so there's plenty of frozen food here. I'm sure it's better than what you get out in the gangs. Not that I'd know." He laughed nervously, cautiously lowering his hands.
"What's your name?" Mizuo asked sternly.
"Ryoto." He smiled. "Ryoto Rui."
"Mizuo Ryugami." She said. "You really have food you can just give away?"
