Oswald woke to the sound of coughing coming from the bathroom. It was loud, and coming in fits. He'd heard the same sound before but...
He decided to go back to sleep, thinking that the amount of sleep he had gotten was little, and that it was screwing with his head. He turned over, closing his eyes tightly, trying to make the noise go away. It only got louder. He stood up, not remembering much of what happened last night. That is, until he stepped on the blades he'd forgotten to put away. He was reminded of Nicey's sympathetic face, it was laced with worry. He looked at the bandages on his arms, frowning a little. He shook his head as he went from daydream to reality. He saw 4 of his kids carrying buckets, one held a black substance, the other was empty as they reached the bathroom, he saw a hand reach other and take the empty one. The others took the bucket outside.'What in the devil are they up to?'
He walked over to see what they were doing, only to hear a sob, then a yell... Then a loud thud
"Mommy! "
One of his kids yelled, running toward the bathroom, they all seemed to gather around, a few ere crying. Others were just grouped around the door, trying to get in. He hadn't heard any of the kids call anyone 'mom' since Felix left... And since...
The image of Ortensia lying down and crying entered his mind, causing him to run toward the bathroom. His kids parted the way quickly as he entered.Nicey lay on her side on the bathroom floor, clutching her knees to her chest. Tears and ink pooled around her. The ink was covering her eyes, soaking into her hair from the puddle. The image cut into Oswald like a knife, leaving stabbing pains in his chest. He took a deep breath, not wanting to break down in front of his kids again. He walked over to her, taking a nearby rag and wiping the ink from her eyes, arms, and hair.
"O-Ozzy... "
Her pain was evident in her voice. She was shaking all over. He pulled her into a hug, tears falling that he hadn't noticed had built up.
"It's okay... I'm here. Save your energy."
She didn't even nod. The ink dripped onto his clothes, he didn't care, he just wanted to hold her at that moment. He had seen one person go through this once already, he knew the pain they went through. Minutes went by in sobs. By the time the ink had finally faded, Nicey had fainted out of pain. He didn't move. He heard a door open and close, then footsteps. He turned to see Mickey staring at them from the doorway.
"Ozzy, are you... Is she...?"
He shook his head, making Mickey sigh in relief.
"She fainted... She was in so much pain... And I couldn't help her. "
Tears began to make their way down his face. Mickey put his hand on his brothers shoulder. He had noticed the bandages, deciding to ask about them later.
"It's okay. She would never think of it like that. "
Oswald cried quietly for a minute or two, before picking up Nicey and putting her in his bed. He took off her inkstained top and shorts, blushing. He replaced them with one of his t shirts, tossing the inky clothing in the washing machine. He layed next to her, holding her close. Her hand was on his chest, he had his arms around her waist. He ran his fingers through her hair, smiling at her. It didn't last long. He wondered how long she'd been going through this. How long she'd hidden it. It's been around a week since they met, and not once had he seen her have a fit like that. How much pain did she keep locked away? He questioned these things. Guess they both had hidden something, that was killing them in different ways.
(Sorry for not updating. School has started so I have that to think about constantly. And I kept jumping from one idea to the next, causing them to clash. Sooo, yeah.)
