~Lyri~
Five minutes until closing time, five minutes until closing time."Attention all shoppers," I speak over the intercom. "We have five minutes until closing time, please grab your stuff and get out." I put the microphone thing down and stood at my cash register. A customer came down my way, making me internally groan.
"Hey Lyri." I hear a familiar voice. I look up to see Ethan. "Oh, hey Ethan. Here to by some more 50% off underwear?" I joked. His face turns red with embarrassment.
"No, but," he puts a package of beef jerky on the counter, "I'm here to by Benny's late night snack." He smiles. I raise an eyebrow with an uneven smile. "Or, you're just here to see me." I wink, ringing up the jerky.
"That's just a bonus." He winks awkwardly. I laugh full heartedly, with a small snort in it. He smiles cutely and tilts his head to the side. "You have an adorable laugh." He compliments, shyly. I look at him, blushing slightly.
"Someone's a bit flirty today." I infer, giving him the jerky.
"Well, can you blame me?" He asks. My heart races faster.
I look at his face for a moment, a small smile coming to my lips. "$2.97."
He hands me a five dollar bill. "Keep the change." He winks again. I laugh lightly. "So where did this boost of confidence come from?" I lean against the counter, holding my head up with my right hand. He half smiles. "Benny helped me."
"Really now?"
"Yeah. It was helping until my dad walked in. He thought I was gay for a moment." He nervously laughs, and rubs the back of his neck.
I make an 'ah' face. "So, I was wondering, if maybe you'd like to go out tomorrow night if you didn't have any plans." He bites his lip nervously.
"Attention all Walmart shoppers, we are now closed, please exit the store now." My manager announces.
Ethan looks at me with hopeful eyes. I smile.
"Looks like my shift is over and you have to leave." A smirk comes to my face. He groans and grabs the jerky. "So what's your answer?" He asks.
The manager comes up to Ethan and pats his shoulder. "It's time to go bud." Ethan sighs.
"Looks like you won't get your answer." I joke. He grimaced and turns toward the door. "By the way, Ethan!" I shout after him. He looks at me.
"Yeah, I'm free tomorrow."
