It's been a full weak since I kissed Lyri, and I still haven't had the balls to ask her out. Benny's been pushing and pushing me, but I always chicken out. I just don't know what to do.

"What's stopping you bro?!" Benny asked annoyed. I shrug.

"I don't know

"I don't know. What if she rejects me?" I whine.

"Dude, if you don't do this soon, she's going to think you aren't interested and go for someone else."

"Lyri's not like that."

"She could want me for all we know." Benny smiles cheekily. I roll my eyes. "Yeah, she's in love with you like Autumn is in love with me and Rory's in love with Alyssa." I say sarcastically. He looks offended.

"Autumn does not love you!" Benny argues. I just look at him. "Oh my gosh, I was being sarcastic." I say as I readjusted my backpack strap on my right shoulder.

"How do I know you aren't being sarcastic." He glares. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes from his stupidity. "Autumn loves you, and Rory loves food." I open my eyes once I finished.

He nodded/shrugged to the side in response showing that he gets it. "I see your point."

"If you think you're all that and that asking an amazing girl out is easy, then why don't you ask out Autumn?" I shot with a smirk. He gives me an uneven smile back. "Already taken care of in three... two... one." He points behind me to the main hall. I turn around and heard a confetti canon go off. Cheerleaders started coming out of the gym and the band kids started playing their instruments. Autumn walks by in confusion.

"Sorry, gotta go bud." Benny pats my shoulder before jogging over to the crowd. Lyri walks beside Autumn with such an adorable puzzled look. I didn't know it was possible to make looking confuse look good, but as always, she defeats impossible.

The dance team comes out and starts doing this complicated routine. Then all of a sudden a huge banner at the top of the painting of the school mascot came down, printing the words:

Autumn, will you be my girlfriend

Benny walks in front of the whole crowd with a question mark in hand. Dang, he's so extra.

Lyri looks around and starts slowly backing away from the scene. Then she spots me, smiles, and quickly walked towards me.

"Did you know about this?" She points behind her, referring to the scene behind her once she reached me.

"No, but I'm not sticking around for it." I say, grabbing her wrist gently and pulled her towards the benches outside of school.

Lyri and I sat on the bench in silence. Awkward silence. The worst kind of silence. Should I take this chance to ask her out? But what if she says no? What if she only went out with me because she felt sorry for me?

"You know what's funny?" Lyri asked, looking at me. I raise an eyebrow. "What is?"

"The first time we met, you were paying for... unique items and I was just doing my job. Now look at us. We go to the same school, have the same friends, and even best friends ourselves." She smiles at me.

A little piece of me just died inside. She considers us best friends, and nothing more. I knew it was too good to be true.

"Yeah, it's a small world." I give a fake humorless laugh with an awkward one second smile. Lyri nods. "Yeah. It is. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I believe we were put together in this world for a reason. And I think that, the reason is for us to be something more than what we are." She pauses.

"Ethan Morgan, will you be my boyfriend?" She asks while biting her lip, waiting for an answer. I've noticed that she does that a lot when she's super nervous. I don't see how she's nervous; she seems so confident.

The hugest smile goes across my face. She just asked what I've been to scared to do. I open my mouth to give an immediate 'yes', when I see something out of my peripheral vision.

Stood there, was the whole reason I need to help Lyri: Erin Carter.

(Idk who he is I just made him up)

He gives me an evil smirk before creating a blue flame in his hand.

"Is there something wrong Ethan?" Lyri asked, her back turned towards him. Erin winks and throws the flame towards us.

My eyes go wide, but I knew what I had to do. I wrap my arms around Lyri and flipped both of us over the bench with me cradling her in my arms, my hands making sure she didn't hit her head, and myself hovering over her so she doesn't get hit. The blue flame crashes into the bench, sending it into furious flames. I look under, and noticed that Erin was long gone.

My breathing picked up; full of adrenaline. I roll off of Lyri, revealing a panic streaking look.

"What on earth was that?!" She shreaks while propping herself up on her elbows.

"Well uh, I'm not sure myself." I answer, looking down at my knees. "We need to leave this spot before the flames get worse." She gets up and begins to jog to her car.

"You coming?" She asks with wide eyes, still a little shaken. I nod.

Getting into the car was silent. Lyri turned on the radio so the silence would be filled.

"If you wanna scream yeahhhhhh. Let me know and I'll take you there." She sings along, with no expression or movement; just keeping her eyes on the road.

I turn the volume down. "Lyri?"

No answer.

"Lyri."

"Lyri!"

"What?!" She yells.

"Are you okay?" I ask.

She rolls her eyes and bites the inside of her cheek, turning the volume all the way up.

Did I mess up?
