My eyes were drooping and I was just about to drift when I heard a thud from downstairs. I jumped up slightly and clung to my covers a little bit tighter. Usually, I wouldn't even care about the noises in the house because my family was always doing something but they weren't here right now. They all went out to some sporting event and I hated sports so naturally, I stayed home.
But that left the one lingering question. Who was in my house?
I bit my lip slightly as I debated on wether I should go check or stay in bed. I heard another thud and my curiosity got the best of me. I slipped silently out of bed and crept down the stairs. The thuds were getting louder and my heart was in ringing in my ears. I heard a loud moan echo throughout the house and I froze. To say that I was scared would be an understatement. I was bloody terrified. The unearthly moans along with the storm made my skin crawl. I reached the last step and started to explore the house. It didn't help that it was pitch black in here and I couldn't see a thing. I would've cut the lights on but I was too afraid to actually see what was in the house.
Lightning flashed and the wind howled outside. Another thud rang out.
It was coming from the door.
I put one hand on the door knob and listened again. I heard the jingling of a bell and a small moan or was it a gurgling sound. Another thud sounded. Gaining my wits, I opened the door the reveal a soaking cat.
I let out a small gasp as I realized that I had left my kitten outside in the rain. He would probably catch a cold now. I felt bad because he stood there shivering and sneezing.
"Come on Mr.Whiskers" I got him out of the rain and he immediately ran off into the house.
I chuckled. He probably was going to his favorite spot to get dried off.
As I closed the door, I frowned as my mind began to piece a few things together. It wasn't until that moment that I realized that Mr.Whiskers had been dead for a month.
