If only Cinderella would've just listened. Her fairy godmother told her exactly what she had to do. She had to leave by midnight because that's when her spell began to wear off but things didn't turn out as she had planned.
Cinderella had hoped to escape from the palace without any interruptions but her cursed shoe had fallen off. She didn't even know how that was possible when her shoe was made to fit perfectly. Maybe it was just the magic weakening.
Not far behind her was the Prince and he wasn't ready to give up his princess just yet. He ran down the stairs shouting after her but that only caused her to speed up. She had to get home. He couldn't see her like this.
Prince Charming stopped his chase for a moment as he saw a glass slipper on the stairs. He gingerly picked it up. Realizing it belonged to his fair maiden, he ran even faster catching Cinderella just as she was about to close her carriage door.
"Y-your shoe." he huffed out, handing it to her through the open door.
"T-thank you but I must get going." she said warily.
"Going?" His head shot up quickly, "Where are you going?"
"I have to get home before-"
The clock chimed for the 2th time that night since it hit 12 o'clock.
"Let me come with you. Let me formally ask your family for your hand in marriage."
"I-I" Cinderella was at loss for words but the Prince took that as an invitation to hop in.
The clock had struck for the 5th time as they hurried off down the pathway to her house.
The prince placed a hand on Cinderella causing her to blush furiously and her heart to best violently. She stared down at her hands.
The Prince smiled, knowing the effect he had on her. He always had this effect on women. He had it on Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, and now her. Cinderella. He lifted her hand up slowly and her eyes snapped to meet his.
"My lady." he spoke softly before leaning down to give her hand a kiss.
Before he could do such a thing, the gloves that covered Cinderella's hands turned to rags before his very eyes. He let out a squeak and dropped her hand.
"W-what's the matter?" she asked before glancing in the direction he was looking.
Cinderella gasped, clutching her gloveless hand to her chest.
"I-I" she opened her mouth but closed it again.
She didn't know how to explain it to him.
"What's going on? One minute you had a glove and now you're wearing a rag. Even your clothes. . . " He trailed off as he watched the magic die and slowly revert back to the rags she originally wore.
He looked at her with pity and just the sight of displeasure, caused by her appearance, in his eyes caused Cinderella's heart to sink. She had to say something to fix things. Before she knew it, she began recounting her tale of her evil step sisters and mother and told her about her fairy god mother.
"Oh my." he said in awe when she finished.
Cinderella was silent as she gazed at him with hopeful eyes.
"I suppose clothing choices doesn't matter. You're beautiful all the same." he said and then added, " besides I think it's romantic that you did all this just to see me."
Cinderella blushed for the second time that night and for a while, she forgot about how the magic would eventually wear off completely.
Fairy Godmother shook her head in disappointment. She was running out if time. Even though they were almost back to her cottage, she didn't believe they would make it in time.
They were a long ways from the castle now so Cinderella didn't know exactly what time it was but for a moment, none of that mattered. The only thing that did matter was the Prince sitting beside her. Her heart still swelled with joy when she though about him. He truly wanted to marry her, despite her poor appearance and that just made her love him even more.
Love? she scoffed at her thoughts. No, she liked him a lot.
Then something odd began to happen. The carriage began to quiver like a fat women's belly in laughter.
"What's going on?" Prince Charming grasped her arm in fear.
Cinderella had no words.
The walls of the carriage began to turn a sickly color almost like a pastry orange and that's when she realized what was truly happening.
"The magic." she sputtered." its wearing off completely."
His eyes widened in fear and he let go of her arm to reach the door handle. He was too late, the door dissolved leaving a clump of pumpkin mush in its place.
"Cinderella!" he squeaked, his voice tinged with fear reached her ears.
"Fairy Godmother!" she cried out.
The carriage began to away backwards and forwards in a rapid matter. It felt like it was falling apart at its seams and the walls were closing in on them fast.
Cinderella hoped her godmother would come for her and save her like before but that wasn't the case. The walls began squishing Prince Charming and Cinderella closer and closer together and she knew what fate had in store for them. Screams mixed with the sound of pleading filled the pumpkins insides until eventually, it all grew quiet. Their fate had been determined.
The Godmother watched from afar as the nearly changed pumpkin came to a halt in their yard. The mice scattered in fear and the pumpkin flew back into its original place, right in the pumpkin patch.
'Poor Cinderella.' Thought the Godmother. 'if only she had taken here to my warning.'
Months flew by and the entire kingdom went in search of Prince Charming. They thought it strange that he had disappeared on the night of the ball. Eventually, after no sight of him, everyone gave up searching. 3 months passed and it was already thanksgiving.
The Stepmother of Cinderella and her evil step-sisters didn't miss Cinderella that much. They only missed the chores she would do for them. The Stepmother thought that she had ran away and was glad that she was gone. she was a burden on this family.
"Go get me a pumpkin!" Stepmother yelled at one of the sisters.
The youngest one scrambled to do her bidding. She waltzed through the patch, examining each one to make sure they're ripe and rich in color. She picked the one farthest to the right. It was awfully heavy but it was the ripest looking one.
"Here you go Stepmother." She placed it on the counter beside her and left to finish her make-up.
She had a date with a duke and her was very wealthy indeed. She hoped he would make her his wife.
Stepmother went to the drawer and picked out a knife suited for cutting bigger things. She held the back of the pumpkin and cut into it. A small stream trickled from the cut in the pumpkin but it was strange. The color of the juice was a bit off. She ignored it and cut even deeper. The pumpkin split and a wave of blood gushed out onto her clothing. There in the center laid a pile of bones and chunks of flesh.
The tragic story of Cinderella and Prince Charming had been told. Their decaying bodies lay were proof to their existence.
And with that realization, the stepmother screamed, throwing the knife into the air as she nearly fainted.
Oh, what a bloody surprise.
