I arrived home later than I expected, due to my slow pace and distracted mind. I felt like someone was following me home, but everytime I'd turn and look there'd be no one there. Who would be following me anyways? I would even swear that I'd hear someone laugh quietly, when I'd try to look around. It was like I was being teased. But I just shook off the feelings and continued on my way.

When I finally got in my house, I realized how quiet it was. That's when I saw the note taped on the kitchen counter. Why did my mother use tape when it was obviously lying on the counter? It really shouldn't be going anywhere. I shrugged it off and shook my head, peeling the paper off to read it.

Abigail,

Since I was driving your father to the airport today, I figured I would also take your siblings out to your grandmother's house today too. This means I won't be home tonight or tomorrow morning, but I should see you tomorrow after you come home from school. I'm sorry I'm doing this so short notice, but I thought it'd be for the best. I hope you had a good first day here. I left money under the coffee pot for you to use if you want to order pizza for the night, or go to the store to get something different. I even heard there's a decent chinese carryout place across town, if you're tired of pizza. Stay safe and remember to lock the doors.

                                                                                                           Love Mom

I guess having the house to myself tonight wouldn't be horrible. My mom was right about one thing. I was absolutely tired of pizza. It happened to be our staple food during the move and I really couldn't stand the sight of it anymore. I'd just look up the number to the chinese place online and call about getting that delivered later. I just needed to take advantage of having the house to myself right now.

I went upstairs and pulled my radio out of a box in the corner and proceeded to take it downstairs to the kitchen. Dashing down the stairs like a child, I rounded the corner and quickly hooked my radio up on the counter. After setting up my phone to play my music on shuffle, I found myself dancing to Benny Goodman's Sing Sing Sing that rang through the speakers. The swing music left my soul feeling carefree and my heart feeling light. I never knew what song would play next and it was fun. The wide variety in music made me into a ballerina, hip-hop performer, pop star, or ballroom dancer every time a new song came on.

This is why I liked having the house to myself. I would never do this in front of someone, especially my family. If that happened I would die of my own mortification. I was sure I looked weird, but singing or dancing along was something I enjoyed. After dismissing myelf from my invisible dance partner, I noticed that it had gotten closer to dinner time. Instead of waiting an hour longer to eat, which would've kept me on my normal eating schedule, I determined that it wouldn't be awful to get food early. I had just worked up an appetite anyways. So I set myself to work to find the phone number of the chinese takeout my mom mentioned on my phone. After 10 minutes of frustration, I found a phone number. Sighing in relief, I dialled the number. As it rang, I slowly started to get anxious. It was stupid, but I couldn't help it, so I jumped when I heard a woman's sharp voice pick up on the other end of the line.
