[Author's POV]

Mason King paced back in forth in the cream-colored tech room. He was talking on the phone with the Governor of Texas, Mr. Redding. "Sir, we have 35 total students coming into the Thinning today," Mason replied happily. "Everything is in motion."

Governor Redding replied back in a modern tone. "Good. Don't fail me, King." Mason hung up the phone and checked the security cameras. 35 students who had failed their tests were walking down the blackened hallways. One girl he particularly noticed to be familiar.

He zoomed into a blonde haired girl. "I wander who she is," Mason said to himself. He pressed a button on the computer system and a guard picked up the line. "Bodkins here. Whatcha need, King?" He asked. "Bring me a blonde haired girl with brown eyes and wearing simple clothing."

The guard did as he was told. He checked for girls with blonde hair and simple clothes. It took him a few tries, but he found the one Mason described to him. She was taken to Mason immediately without delay.

[Terri's POV]

After the guard brought me to some bearded man, I fell to my knees. "What do you want with me?" I asked afraid of what he might do. "I've seen you before. You look like a student that went here 10 years ago. Who are your parents?"

I gulped as I couldn't find the words to speak. He was 5 inches from my face. "I'm not gonna ask again. Who are your parents!" He yelled. "Kellan and L...L...Laina Woods," I cried. He stared at me in shock. "Laina Woods?" I nodded silently. "Wasn't she Laina Michaels before?" I nodded again.

"You've just helped me out a great deal, little girl." He chuckled evily. He motioned for the guard who came and placed me in restraints in front of a computer screen.

[Laina's POV]

I was drinking tea when a video call came up on the computer. Kellan answered it and we saw the same man that we saw this morning who tried to have me killed a long time ago. "Hello, Miss Michaels. I have your daughter here." He showed Terri in restraints struggling.

"Release her, King!" Kellan yelled. "Oh, I don't think so, Kellan. But, I will do a trade for her." "What's the trade?" I asked. "Laina will come to the Thinning before the end of today and give her life, or all of your kids are terminated." He smiled.

The call ended and tears streamed down my face. "Kellan, I have to go. It's the only way to save the kids." I cried. "No, Laina. I won't let you." He hugged me. "What do we do then? Our kids are in danger!" "We'll find a way." He said reassuringly.
