Liesel sat herself down on the doorstep of the Shoebox shaped Steiner house. She was not in a good mood. Liesel had searched all over Munich looking for Rudy that day and couldn't find him. It was now around 5:00 pm and Liesel figured Rudy would be coming back home for dinner soon, so she just sat, and waited. She wanted to seem as cool and casual as possible -even though she had spent her entire day searching for the boy lemon colored hair, which she had grown to love.

She cracked after 2 minutes. At first, Liesel was furious, 'why would he just ditch me?', she wondered to herself, afraid for the answer, knowing the boy could have many reasons for not wanting to see her anymore. I'm ugly, I'm stupid, I'm dirty, I'm too loud mouth and opinionated,I won't kiss him, even though I desperately want to. The last thought caught Liesel off guard, she'd been feeling that way around the young Steiner for quite some time. She found herself worrying for him instead of teasing him, wanting to see him more rather than get him out of her face, kiss him, in replacement of all the dirty insults she spewed at him, but she didn't. She could never take Rudy seriously, he had just recently stopped asking Liesel for a kiss and it broke her heart. He has started flirting with the girls both during school and outside of school, it broke her heart every time.

Liesel was casually walking around, thinking of the situation at hand, when a realization hit her. Lina, a girl who Rudy had paid extra attention to in the past couple days. Liesel sighed, guessing that they were together at that moment, probably kissing each other, holding hands, or something else Liesel could do with Rudy. She groaned, the thought giving her a painful watschen to the heart.
"You're such a hosenscheisser", she scolded herself.
"If you just bucked up and weren't such a schlappshwanz maybe it would be you with Rudy instead of Lina", she continued cursing herself as she made her way over to the Amper River to think about her love life -or lack of one.

"Thanks Lina", Rudy muttered, not looking at her as she came back with the flowers he wanted. Lina placed them on a small tree stump and proceeded to pick up some more things for Rudy. Lately, Rudy had been stressed. He was getting sick and tired of not knowing how Liesel truly felt about him, so he came up with a plan to let her know how much he loved her. The plan was great -except for the part where he had to avoid Liesel all week, it was killing him, eating him up on the inside, but he told himself it would pay off in the end. At Least, he hoped it would. Rudy had set up a beautiful picnic at the Amper River, it was a place where Liesel liked to think, and where he won't want to finally kiss her. It was a special to all.

The only reason he had gotten Lina to help was because she was a girl, she was good with decorating, and, of course, she threatened Rudy saying
"If you don't bloody kiss her already, I'll get Ludwig Schmeikel to!"
That, was enough for Rudy to, not only kiss her, but find a romantic way to tell Liesel he loved her -with Lina's help of course.

Rudy and Lina we're just adding the finishing touches on the decorations and the book Rudy had made for Liesel, when Rudy saw the silhouette of a certain book thief.
"Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, she's here!", Rudy harshly whispered to Lina. Her eyes suddenly went wide.
"Quick, you stay here and I'll go distract her". Rudy nodded, it was a plan. Not a particularly good plan, but a plan nonetheless. Rudy was quietly flipping through the book he had made, smiling with each turning page. He had written down some memories of him and Liesel, describing them as best as he could, and even adding mediocre drawings to help. On each page, it said something about her that he loved.

In total, there were 101 pages, the last one an apology, for not writing enough things about her that he loved, and for all the times he didn't show how much he truly cared for her. In short, the book was touching, heartwarming, and sure to produce a kiss between The Book Thief and The Jesse Owens of Molching.
