CHAPTER 1: ARRIVAL

At the Whitewood clan household, everyone was having breakfast. This was facilitated by some of the most recent technology: electricity! It made housework much easier. Despite living in a town of only a few thousands, the Whitewoods always seek to have the latest technology, and Ciprian, their youngest son, was entranced by it; sufficiently that he wanted to make his college major the science of Engineering.  During the meal Ciprian was lectured by his father who already had the experience about what to expect, and to crush some not very realist expectations.

Meanwhile in Home of the Livingston family, a similar thing was happening, except something slightly more extraordinary is about to unfold. Parthena, which is the firstborn of the house, will also leave today to study but study something related to something that she loves to do, which is give help to those who need it. Parthena’s father cut the silence: “May I have you attention? I want to dedicate this toast to my dear Parthena, who will in the future, will become a proud practitioner of the noblest profession of them all: medicine. I, in the name of all presents, I wish you success. Cheers” all the present familiars, from the youngest to the eldest gently clashed their glasses full of chilled nut liquor reserved just for special occasions; this of course was one of them.

After an hour or 2 met each other at the Coach station, both were carrying all the important things. Ciprian was sitting on a bench with an unused ticket on his hand with the company of a suitcase, Parthena, or Thena to those who know her; naturally happy as always was also carrying a pretty large and heavy case as well.

A loud, happy, feminine voice interrupted Ciprian’s snooze: “Ciprian! Cip? Cipee?”

“Eh? Wha? Ah! It’s you!” Ciprian stood up and gave a lifting hug to the light, tiny female in front of him.

She said: “you came back to life, why are you like that? Aren’t you excited?”

He replied, still bit sleepy: “I know, I just don’t have the energy to do anything. I haven't been able to sleep for three days.”

Curiously, she asked: “But why?”

“It’s a mixture of excitement, nerves and expectations; I hope I am up to the challenge” he said, unconfident.

Parthena grabs his left shoulder and shakes it up a bit in cheering mood. “Relax! You are going to be just fine; you are the smartest I know.”

He said “True. But so far, it has all been too easy I never had to make a real effort.”

“Don’t worry Cip, high school’s last years are just for that, prepare you to the college life” She replied, in a cheering mood and the  asked: “.By the way how your family did take the departure”

“Good, my family is proud of me specially my grandpa, you know who he is, my father lectured me about what to expect there.  He said the first year is the worst because of the adaptation, having to share rooms with people who pretty much you don’t know.”

Parthena kept on motivating him: “You will overcome this, trust me, you are better than that.”

Cip’s ego got inflated by the flattery: “You are right, I will walk over the university!”

She even more cheerfully replied! “That’s the spirit!”

Ciprian was already pumped up by the encouragement provided by Thena, but he had to ask: “What about you?”

“Oh. Just great! They are extremely excited to have a doctor in the family; they say it would do all a great good. My mother said to take this chance and learn all I can and to don’t let them get the worst of me, especially from the old farts.” She replied.
