Minerva was about to go back to her castle when stopped by a sincere looking gentleman. His face sincere, his eyes scared, in spite of the scars he was innocent and strong. Grief was completely visible in the frown lines of his forehead.

“Professor, Minerva I know that you may not be the best person to tell this to. But we, I mean all the Gryffindors are habitual to looking up to you. I’d go to the headmaster but I’m definitely not in the mood of riddles. I wanted straight answers. You’d have as many answers as the headmaster would ever allow.” He questioned her. His eyes curious, they were grieving yes. But he was the man who still hadn’t left hope.

A simple nod of Minerva and Remus knew that the rumors were true. That James and Lily had.. died. It was still difficult for him to accept that.

“What about Sirius, they say he was a spy?” he asked with almost breaking heart. He couldn’t.

The anger in Minerva’s eyes assured him that it was also true, “Minerva I need to find him. I have to know. I can’t trust the rumors. I have to find out for my own self. I want him to say he killed James and Lily while looking into my eye. The ministry isn’t able to find him, I know I can. Please I just need a helping hand.”

Minerva understanding a need for closure, said, “You are in luck Remus, come with me.” Saying that she side along apparated him to her castle. Without any warning.

“Where are we?” he asked after he got over the squeezing sensation, worse because they were side along apparating.

“Oh you didn’t know about this of course, this is my home Remus. McGonagall Castle. Or just my home. Whatever you prefer” she said and asked him to follow her.

“Mike” she said. And with a pop an house elf appeared. Mike, stooped low, “Mistress is back. Mike has been good mistress. But the prisoner mistress. Mike stopped him. Mike will punish himself later mistress.” He said in distress.

“Where is the prisoner Mike and is harry safe?” she asked him. She couldn’t understand how Sirius had escaped her binds. No one was able. May be He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named had indeed taught him a few skills.

“Babe is safe mistress. Mike would not allow prisoner to touch the babe. But Mike is confused mistress, the prisoner isn’t harmful.” Mike said.

So he had worked his charming skills or dark magic on her poor house self as well. She wouldn’t leave him, Sirius Black you would be punished for your crimes.

Remus stood behind. Startled at the proceedings. He couldn’t see why and who Minerva has as a prisoner. And babe? Does by any change she means Harry? Dumbledore said he was safe, and was to go to muggles?

“Follow me Remus. And wand out, there may be danger.” She said

In the nursery, they found only Sirius adoring the little bundle in his hands. He looked at the child with almost sickening love. Minerva was confused would be an understatement.

Though she still pointed her wand at Sirius. “Sirius keep Harry down. Now!”

“Yes Professor.” He obliged. His expression contrite, though confident.

Remus silently observed. He wanted to do many things, there were many emotions running wild on his mind.  But now was not the time. And they, both of them didn’t want to do the explosion in nursery and startle Harry.

“Sirius let’s get this outside. Harry deserves some sleep.” Remus said gently. With Minerva’s temper running high, he expected Sirius to loose his calm pretty soon. This exterior of calm usually resided for a abnormally small time.

Sirius seemed to notice Remus. They shared a look which only friends could understand. Only the people who had shared life together could understand. They shared a long look, an exchange which had to be broken. But this exchanged them both that they had been wrong in not believing the other.

“So Mr. Black tell me how did you come out from the dungeons. Did the Lord teach you this magic himself.” Minerva asked.

“Lord? Who lord? No it was a simple Marauder trick!” Sirius answered truthfully.

“Lord Voldemort! The dark lord Sirius. Don’t fool with me. How did you get out of the dungeons.” Minerva asked.

“Voldemort? Why would the fucking dark lord teach me anything?” he asked vehemently.

“Don’t act so innocent Sirius. We all know your true colours. No reason to lie anymore. Potters are dead, but you cannot do anything to Harry. So might as well confess.” She yelled

“Why would I harm pup? Yes, I know James and Lily, I blame myself for it enough already. You needn’t accuse me of murdering Harry now.” He yelled.

His eyes held sincerity, guilt a but of it yes. But still they were true. Minerva didn’t trust him. Remus on the other hand was a different story. He was as though looking for the explanation. One off hand comment, one stray thought was enough for Remus to trust his mate.

“You swapped then? Without telling me.” Remus asked him. In a serious tone, he had tried to keep accusation out of his tone, but failed miserably.

“Would it better anything if I said I’m very sorry for trusting him.” Sirius asked in very soft voice.

“Swapped what Remus?” McGonagall asked in a curious tone. She had no idea of what conversation was taking place between the Marauders.

“So did he too? Consider that I?” Remus asked Sirius ignoring Minerva. Sirius needn’t ask about whom and what he was referring.  James and he had both come to a unspoken  decision of that. They never spoke about Remus if they could help it.

Sirius gave him an imperceptible nod. He could see the destruction of Remus’ heart there. He stepped forward to hold him, give him a pat. Though Minerva didn’t allow it. “Stop it both of you! And Remus tell me what swap? And whose trust who betrayed.”

Seeing Remus, Sirius knew his mate was in no position to launch into any explanations. So he went forward and gave them. Minerva couldn’t believe her ears as to she was really listening to all this. Sirius was not guilty of murder, or change in allegiances, of spying.
