Sirius was contemplating. He knew after Minerva’s reaction of what the wizard in world though of him. He was sure of he knew how to get himself a trial, but would he want to do that?
It was one thing he despised from the beginning, one thing which made him a rebel. To embrace that part of him? He wasn’t too sure. He asked the only person he could ask.
“Remus? Here’s what I was thinking....”
Remus listened to his words, and he went ahead with it. According to him this was a perfect idea. This would not only force the Winzegamot to listen to him, but it had benefits in future too.
He told Sirius this was the best shot they had. And to not screw it up.
Next day Sir is went to the bank and got done whatever was required. Following which he stepped directly in the heart of wizard in population. The Ministry of Magic.
To say things were chaotic in the ministry would be an understatement. It was a mess. Everyone was busy reconstructing the world that had just been rescued from destruction. Death Eaters were running around freely, Aurors trying their level best to catch them, but not all efforts were as fruitful as you would expect it to be.
Seeing the most wanted, inside their ministry itself, created more chaos. Within mere minutes, Millicent Bagnold the minister of magic himself, along with Barty Crouch was a whole bunch of senior aurors.
Sirius smiled in spite himself. They all had their wands pointed at him, but here he stood with all his cool, wearing a velvety, deep blue robe. Chest showing the crest of Black house. The size of the crest clearly implied he meant business.
“I am here to surrender. It has come to my notice of what the wizard in world thinks of me. So I’m here!” Sirius claimed, not before throwing a Sonorous charm on his throat.
Barty Crouch looked like Christmas had come early, by the time this was transpiring, Sirius noticed a silent pop in the vicinity, and yes so far it was all as he anticipated. Albus Dumbledore was here.
“Yes of course I’m here, to prove my honour, and that of House Black. As Lord Black it will be my duty to protect the name of The Most Ancient and Nobel House of Black. As I was saying minister I’d be very happy to await the trial in Winzegamot, if you would be so kind, please do lead the way.”
“Sirius Black, listen here you useless twat. If you for one second think you will be walking out of this, then you are mistaken.” Barty said indignation.
“I wouldn’t be so quick, kind sir. I’d have thought the ministry is fair. You’d definitely not let an innocent be charged?” Sirius asked.
“You have been given a kiss at sight order, because of your crimes. Even if we consider your surrender as a good deed. It means a ticket straight to Askaban.” Crouch reprimanded.
“If that is the case Mr. Crouch then I must tell you, that you are charged with treason, against the Head of The Most Ancient and Nobel House of Black. I demand a trial, and such is my right.” Sirius growled.
“I believe he is right, Barty.” Albus piqued.
“Dumbledore? You must be delusional! What would be the trial be for? You yourself confirmed as to Sirius was the Secret Keeper. He deserves one fate only.” Barty argued.
“Yes I did say that Barty, but Lord Black here does deserve a chance to prove himself. Plus. He is the Lord Black, he not only can demand this, as a member of esteemed Winzegamot. If denied a trial, it would lead to disgrace to the most Ancient laws of Winzegamot. The laws which cannot be altered in any case.” Dumbledore the Head of Winzegamot countered.
“Of course Professor. At least someone here knows their laws. Unlike the Head of Department of Magical Laws Enforcement.” Sirius replied.
“Lord Black. I do hope, for your and the safe of repute of House of Black, that you know what you are doing” Albus replied.
“Of course Professor, if you’d be kind enough to arrange and owl me the details.” Sirius replied.
“Ah. Lord Black, you see there is a little glitch. We cannot let you go. Of course innocent until proven guilty. But you cannot for go the fact that you indeed are accused. You have to be confined, albeit temporarily, awaiting your trial.”
This one thing he didn’t anticipate. Which was of course dumb on his part, but of course he was new to these games.
“He can be home confined, in secure manner I assure you. Of course it helps that old Lord McGonagall left only me in his wake. So as his proxy, I take Lord Black under my wing, until the final judgement. I assure you, I completely understand the circumstances. If anything goes wrong, as in Lord Black disappears, I can be jailed or worse.” Came a booming voice behind Sirius
He was shocked of course. He hadn’t expected Minerva, much less what she just said. From the looks of it neither had the wizard in community.
He was surprised, but now wasn’t the time of gawking, he turned back, and offered his hand to Lady McGonagall, while she curtsied, “My Lady.”
“Lord Black.” She nodded.
“Yes that decision is acceptable as the Winzegamot recognises Lady McGonagall, as a proxy of House McGonagall. But of course Minerva I must warn you of silliness of this decision.” Minerva not the one to let the implication slide easily, retorted, “Of course I do realise that Albus. But sometimes things must be done for that greater good as a wise man once said.”
Saying this, Sirius and Minerva both apparated, to their manor.
When Minerva lost all cool, “ What in the world were you thinking? You could have been sent to Askaban for safe keeping for all I know.” She shouted.
Remus who was a tad unaware of this situation, was shocked by this information, “Askaban?” he questioned
“As that is the only thing you are surprised about I must say you knew the plan, did you not Remus.” She asked, her lip thinned. Had they been in school, they’d know by now that, loads of points and detention awaited them.
“Minnie, you see it was well thought plan. And it worked too.” Sirius pleaded.
“It was sheer dumb luck it worked Sirius!” she said, looking from above her spectacles.
