Cole hadn't removed his face from his knees and I started to actually get really worried. It wasn't my place but I had a heart and it was reaching out to the sad soul on the floor.
I slide my uninjured leg down and then used the crutch to descend my other leg. Pain rippled through my leg and I hissed but I was successful on the floor next to him.
"What are you doing?" His voice was hoarse and he finally lifted his head up. His eyes were wide from shock but I noticed the moistness that lay on his bottom eyelid.
"I thought you could use the support." I say offering him my crutches and I cringed at my awful joke.
"You are terrible at jokes honestly." He says offering a sad smile.
"Why are you being nice to me?" He asks suddenly and I answer him with a shrug.
"I know what it's like to lose a parent you shouldn't have to go through anything similar no matter how much of an ass you are." It felt weird opening up to Cole this way considering nobody actually knew I was an orphan but this guy seems to always find out my secrets so did it even matter?
His face twisted in confusion and distaste. He stood up in anger, his eyes showed that he was hurt and my stomach churned maybe he didn't like that I was talking about my parents when his dad was on his death bed?
"Sorry" I quickly say and look away.
"No sky I can't believe that you can lie right now! Honestly you have two parents that love you!" He screams and starts pacing. It was my turn for my face to twist into confusion, what the actual hell is he talking about has he met my adopted mother? If he did I don't think he would say saying such nice things about her and my adopted father isn't even around.
"I'm talking about my biological parents asshole and don't assume things honestly I'm trying to be nice but you keep on being an asshat!" I blew up but it didn't have much of a dramatic effect that I wanted to, considering I was still stuck on the floor. Damn sprained leg.
"Biological parents?" He says exasperatedly and then looks away. His pacing intensified and he started muttering to himself constantly saying "no".
"You're an orphan?" He stops in front of my face. He was dead serious as if it was a life changing piece of information and I felt uncomfortable, why did it matter?
"So the woman that is raising you isn't your actual mother?" His voice was shaky and I was starting to get scared.
"No, I'm so glad that she isn't to be honest, I grew up in an orphanage and the Zedler's took me in at the age of six." I was skeptical giving him this information but something told me he needed to hear this.
"That was eleven years ago, oh my god I can't believe-" Cole started to say but was cut of by the nurse who had come into the hallway to call Cole in.
I waited in the hallway but the door was wide open and I couldn't help but eavesdrop.
"Dad what happened? The nurse said you were stable but how the hell did you get shot?" Cole was angry yet worried at the same time, I could hear it in his voice.
"C-Cole w-wh-" his fathers voice was gruff and he struggled to speak. I hadn't caught a glimpse of his face so I struggled to imagine what he would look like but all that was stuck in my very imaginative and creative mind was a really old senior version of Cole.
"Okay don't speak, get some rest." He says more calmly this time.
"No C-Cole why-"his breathing was heavy I could hear it from the hallway which was concerning.
