"Thanks for inviting me to your hangout." Avery says as she takes a seat. Our hangout was a small cafe in walking distance from our school. Almost every day Jordan and I would come here to either get a snack or work on our homework together, we always did the bare minimum so we could go straight to our game of paper football.
If we don't graduate it's because we chose to spend our time flicking around a piece of paper trying to score a touchdown instead of studying.
If you haven't noticed by now Jordan and I are extremely competitive when it comes to any game. That's why I didn't blame Avery when she sat there scared and confused as Jordan and I argued.
"No you clearly shook the table ! That would have been a touchdown." Jordan says gesturing to the little paper triangle on the floor.
"I did no such thing! Watch your mouth. I'm no sore loser! If I win, I win fairly." I say agitated by the false accusations.
"Well you clearly are full of bullshit today because I saw you shake the damn table!" Jordan bent down to pick up the paper triangle on the floor so I flicked him by the ear. He yelped in pain and Avery started snickering to herself. Man even her laugh is beautiful. Feel like I said this already.
"I didn't shake the damn table! Avery, tell him!"
Avery shrugs and I slap my forehead. "I didn't see anything , heck I'm still confused."
"I did not shake the table! End of story." I cross my arms like the immature five year old I truly am.
"Did too!"
"I did not! Boy you're about to catch these hands."
"Did too! I'm counting it as a touchdown." He says as he starts to mark off our score on the sheet. I huff in annoyance, I guess sometimes you have to give in to Jordan. He's such an annoyance.
"Fine whatever! I'll be the bigger person, take the damn point."
I would still win anyway so what's the point. Jordan's face fell and his bottom lip puckered out. I think even my soul screamed at how cute that was.
"Now what's wrong ?" I question, my voice was more calm and soft because I was genuinely concerned.
"I wanted to be the bigger person." He says in a baby voice and I stared at him blankly.
"You're so impossible! I'm tired of versing you, let's switch it up. Avery come here, I'll teach you how to play." Jordan rolled his eyes but smiled mischievously. Oh no he's clearly got something planned.
"Just don't laugh if I mess up, I suck at paper sports." Avery got up and stood next to me, she brushed her fingers through her lush hair and I caught a whiff of vanilla. Oh yummy.
"I'll teach you but if we don't laugh at you are we really going to be friends?" I tease, she rewarded me with a big blown out smile in my direction and I melted. I couldn't possibly have a crush on Avery just yet, I was just really attracted to her but something is telling me I'm royally screwed in the near future. I had no chance and I didn't even know if she was straight or not. Oh god.
"Just shut up and teach me, how do you even flick this?" She attempts to flick the paper ball and misses by a few inches making contact with the table. She hisses in pain and I try to muffle my laugh.
"Here hold it like this by your finger tip and use your other hand to flick." I demonstrated and then gestured to her to try. Her aiming hand was higher than it needed to be and bent in an awkward angle. Without thinking properly I rushed up behind her and moved her hand to a better angle. My bare skin brushed hers and I panicked. I didn't think I'd end up this close to her. I tried to back away but she stopped my right arm from moving of hers and tugged my left arm around her to help her hold the paper ball. It was like one of those cheesy moves that you see guys pulling while playing golf, you know where they put their arms around the girl to help her swing? Disgusting. But here I was pulling a similar situation, unintentionally of course. Not that I was complaining.
