Chapter two
The homecoming fest was fast approaching. I was among the nominees for the queen. I didn't expect it but it seemed some girls actually nominated me. I, Natasha, Michelle, Grace and some other girls were nominated. The school authority later announced that only two nominees will be accepted for the homecoming queen. Then votes were casted. Grace did all what she could to win her the vote. She paid the voting council a huge amount of money, she seek supports from students. She bought goodies for them and persuaded them to vote for her. I got the highest vote and she was the second position. Both of us were nominated for the homecoming queen. I felt sorry for Michelle because we had already planned we were going to stun the homecoming party with a lot of surprises. Though my mother opposed the idea, she wanted me to stay out of any school activity to avoid envy from other people. Michelle's mom took us for shopping and bought us beautiful dresses and Halloween masks. On the homecoming's dinner, there were many students in beautiful attires. Michelle's mom drove us to the Hall's entrance. As I stepped out of the car, my dressing and makeup caught everyone's attention. Jeremy couldn't take off his eyes from me. Michelle walked me in. We had a drink together before her boyfriend; Philip came and walked her to the dance floor to have a nice time together. I was still alone trying to figure out what Grace was wearing, and Jeremy appeared at my front. Io tried to snub him but he pleaded for all the past errors. So I stood up and walked away. After a while, the St. Terrence principal climbed the stage with some executives to announce the winners for the homecoming king and queen. My heart was really beating fast when I heard it was time to call the winner. They called the nominees for the king, to my greatest surprise, Jeremy won. I couldn't stand anymore. I was already shivering because it was time to call the winner for the queen. I noticed a figure standing next to me, it was Grace.
She whispered to my ears, "You think you can win the award and go with Jeremy? Jeremy is mine, I must have him back.
Everything she was saying didn't enter my ears when I heard my name as the winner of the homecoming queen. I turned next to me and I spat on her face. I went ahead to take the award. I didn't want to dance with Jeremy but I had to because it was part of homecoming rule. Jeremy was just looking straight to my eyes without saying a word. So I kissed him. I told Jeremy to follow me back to the hall. It wasn't funny anymore when I saw neither Michelle nor Philip. I saw a note on the table which I was sitting earlier. Jeremy grabbed the note from the table and read it. "Meet me in the woods" I was really scared. I quickly grabbed Jeremy's hand and hurried to the woods. It was really dark, I couldn't see, so Jeremy switched on his hand phone's touch. I could hear Michelle's screaming, we traced her location with her voice. I shrived when I saw Michelle been tied to a tree. I thought this was from Grace. She tied Michelle to threaten me out of her jealousy. I was shocked when I saw Jayden appeared in the woods. He said we have to talk, so Jeremy was forced to leave the scene. Jayden moved closer to me and whispered to my ears, "do you think Jeremy still loves you? I can't watch you guys getting together anymore, Janis, I have feelings for you, seeing you and Jeremy kills me" my jaws dropped as I looked in surprise. Everything was like a dream.

I picked the call and lied to her that Michelle wanted to sleep over in my house, she would return the next day. I didn't inform Jeremy. Immediately I hung the call, different thoughts had filled my mind. I really want Michelle alive, she's more than a friend to me and I must do anything to save her. I was so embarrassed when I got back to school; my news had filled the whole atmosphere. I sighted Michelle from a distance, under a tree with Philip. I walked up to her trying to say sorry. She warned me to stay away from her, and then she hissed and left the scene. Not long after, I saw Jayden and his friends sitting on the uncompleted building beside the tree, they were mocking me. I didn't care and I walked away. When I got back home, Michelle's mom came in angrily and banged our door. My mom was scared at first; she was trying to calm her down. Stay away from my daughter, you devil or you rot in jail, she growled, pointing one finger straight to my eyes and left. My mom asked me what was going on and I explained that I tried to beg Michelle for what happened but she ignored. My mom warned me to stay away from her.
