This video right here saved my ass because otherwise I probably wouldn't have come up with the idea for this chapter. At the very end of the video, there's a clip of Matt training at a martial arts studio and that's what inspired me... Anyways, enjoy!

P.S. I know nothing about martial arts so just go with it okay? 😂

--------------------

Martial arts has always played an important role in my life. I've always loved the rush that you can only get through learning to defend yourself. I've always loved taking out my frustrations through training at a gym, especially if there are punching bags around.

I guess the only problem I've ever had with martial arts is finding the right studio to go to. Every studio I've been to has been super judgemental or a breeding ground for creepy guys to flirt with me.

But last week I began to get desperate. I stayed up until 2 in the morning frantically googling martial arts studios in my area. There was only one martial arts studio left in Peterborough I was willing to try out.

-------------------

World Championship Martial Arts, read the sign out front. I pulled into the parking lot and shouldered my gym back. I looked around the studio as I walked in, and noticed there were barely any people there. Perfect.

I registered at the front desk and then rushed into the locker room and quickly changed. I pulled out a roll of athletic tape from my bag and began to wrap it around my knuckles. I slipped on my boxing gloves and then padded out into the main gym. There was a row of punching bags that were suspended from the ceiling on one wall. At one of the punching bags, a charming guy with side swept black hair and toned muscles was practicing his punches and kicks.

He turned to look at me when I approached, blushed, and then quickly looked away. He's pretty cute. I shook those thoughts away and got into position, four punching bags away from the cute guy.

I spread my legs so they were shoulder width apart and slightly turned my waist. I bent my knees, brought my fists up beneath my jaw and punched. Adrenaline coursed through my veins as my glove connected with the punching bag. I couldn't stop. I kicked and punched with all my might, feeling incredibly powerful. I loved that feeling. I went on training like this for what seemed like forever until a voice brought me back down to the ground.

"Excuse me, miss?" I turned my head towards the voice, panting and heaving. It was the cute guy who had been blushing at me. Beads of sweat rolled down his face and glistened in the sunlight coming in through the windows.

"Um... I don't mean to be that guy, but I noticed your stance is a little bit off... You wouldn't mind if I gave you a couple pointers, would you?" His voice was gravelly and gentle. I felt my face heat up, but I just chalked it up to the fact I'd been training like a maniac.

"Uh, yeah, sure... Why not?" The man smiled and walked around behind me. He set his hands on my hips and firmly squeezed.

"You're gonna wanna tighten your core a little bit here," he murmured, pressing his hand against my stomach and pushing against it a little bit. I sucked in a deep breath. His hand was either really big or my waist was just really small, because it extended all the way across my stomach. "Your shoulders are a little too far forward too." The man's breath gently brushed against my ear as he slid his hands up to my shoulders. I instinctively pressed my back against his firm chest and he giggled.
