Rebecca slowly got out the car and walked quickly towards the front door. All she wanted was to grab a few things, and get out before she was forced to relive the most traumatic moment of her life. She opened the door slowly trying to take it all in moderately. Meanwhile, Sarah walked right by like she wasn’t fazed at all. Rebecca then followed after her and headed into the living room. She could feel the hairs on her arms slowly begin to rise which each step she took. Memories of her mother began to play inside of her head. She started to notice every little detail she had missed before. The way her mom pushed her tongue behind her teeth when she smiled, how she wrinkled her forehead when she was upset.
Before she knew it, tears had began to stream down her face. “This was a bad idea” Rebecca thought to herself. It would have been so much easier to have someone just come and pick all this stuff up. She just needed some short of closure. In only a few short days there would be a funeral and her mom would be gone forever. Now she was in a full fledged sob as the last thing she said to her mother played over and over again in her head. “I’m so sick of you” She had told her mother. All because she wouldn’t let her go down to Florida with her friends for the weekend. Her thoughts were interrupted as Aunt Karen entered through the front door.
“Rebecca, are you okay?” she said softly as she sat beside her on the couch.
“Do I look fine?!” Rebecca replied harshly.
“This isn’t easy for anyone Rebecca. She was sister, my twin at that and I loved her just as much as anyone.” Aunt Karen explained as she placed a hand on Rebecca’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry” Rebecca muttered.
“It’s okay hun. Would you like to wait in the car while I gather your belongings?”
“No thanks, I can do it...”
“Okay, I’m going to head back to the car. Let us know when you’re ready” Aunt Karen said with a smile.
Rebecca couldn’t help but feel bad for snapping at her Aunt like that. She was probably the nicest person in their entire family. Rebecca quickly wiped the hair from her eyes and the tears from her face as she stood up. She grabbed a the family pictures off the wall and slowly made her way down the hallway towards her room.
She opened the closed door by the foot of her bed and started snatching everything off the hangers and tossed it on the floor. Once she was finished she stuffed it all into her suitcase, and moved on to Sarah’s room to help her. When she arrived she was surprised to see that it had already been cleaned out.
She continued walking throughout the house grabbing anything of sentimental value. Once she finished she headed out to the car where her Aunt and Uncle were waiting. “Where is Sarah?” Aunt Karen asked.
“I thought she was with you. I went to her room and she had already cleaned it out.”
“Well, she isn’t out here either.”
“Sarah!” Rebecca called loudly. When no one answered she started to get worried. “Sarah!” she called again a little bit louder. Still, no one answered. Now she was beginning to get worried. She rushed back into the house and double check every room. Still, there was no sign of Sarah. Suddenly, she heard a scream coming from the backyard.
In the blink of an eye, Rebecca took off running outside the door. Out the corner of her eye she could see Aunt Karen chasing after her. She had just veered around the corner of the house she saw Sarah on the ground hovering over something. “Sarah, are you okay?” Rebecca panted.
