trigger warning: mentions of abuse and rape

It was a few months later when they got the call from the police, informing them of Mitch's old Alphas' upcoming trial. They needed Mitch to come and testify before they could decide the Alphas' sentence, and though Mitch was scared to see them again, he agreed.

When the day came, Scott gently dressed Mitch in his clothes to help him feel safe and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. "You'll be great, angel. They'll be thrown in jail for the rest of their lives," he murmured quietly, hugging him.

Mitch sighed shakily and nodded, hugging him back and burying his face in his chest. "I know, Alpha. I'm just scared to see them again. Wh-What if- What if they try to hurt you? What if they kill you in front of me? What if they convince the people that they're good and I have to go back to them? Wh-What if—"

"Shh. Relax, princess," Scott murmured softly, rocking them. "You're freaking yourself out. They will all have handcuffs, and there will be a ton of police officers there making sure they stay far away from me and you. And besides, if they do get close to us and try to hurt you, I'll rip them to shreds. I promise."

Mitch sniffled and squeezed his eyes shut, burrowing deeper into his arms. "Will you stay with me?" he asked timidly.

Scott softened and nodded. "Of course I will, my love. I'll be right at your side."

They called a taxi to take them to the courthouse, and Mitch didn't look out the window like he usually did. He stayed pressed into Scott's side with his face buried in his shirt, the sleeves of the jacket of Scott's that he was wearing hiding his shaking hands. Scott trailed his hand up and down Mitch's side in a fruitless attempt to calm him down.

When they arrived, Mitch clutched Scott's hand tightly with both of his own and stayed as close to him as he could get. He was the only Omega in the courthouse; all of the others were either Alphas in police uniforms or Betas in suits clutching briefcases. One of the Betas came over to them, a smile on her lips. She appeared too happy for someone who worked in a place such as that. "Hello. Are you Mitchell Grassi? The abuse victim?" she asked Mitch gently, and the small Omega nodded timidly, hiding behind his Alpha.

"Y-Yes, ma'am."

The Beta nodded and smiled up at Scott. "And you must be his Alpha. Follow me, the trial starts in half an hour." Mitch shrank into himself and followed her obediently, but he made sure Scott was by his side.

The courtroom was filled with people. The jury sat in their stands on the side of the room, and the seats that occupied the first half of the room were filled by the occasional journalist looking for a story. The judge wasn't at her stand yet, and Mitch's old Alphas weren't there either. Mitch was shaking as he and Scott sat in plaintiff's section, but he did his best to hide it.

They waited for ten minutes before the judge came and took her place. "Order!" she called, banging the gavel on her stand. "Bring in the accused!" Two police officers moved to stand in protectively by Mitch and Scott, but they didn't obstruct Mitch's view at all as the doors to the courtroom opened and eight more officers came in with Mitch's old Alphas. Mitch trembled harder at the sight of them and pressed closer to Scott with a small whimper, fighting the urge to crawl into Scott's lap and hide. Scott wrapped his arms around him immediately and glared at them, his eyes flickering between blue and red. He hated how overwhelming the smell of fear was from his poor Omega just at those bastards' mere presence.

Zach, Luke, and Derrick were glaring at Mitch as they were led to their seats, but Bryce was calm, and he offered Mitch a smirk when he met his eyes. Mitch sobbed dryly and quickly hid his face in Scott's neck. "I- I can't do this, sir. I want to go h-home. Pl-ease."
