Scott was released from the hospital after another week. Mitch stayed with him for the whole time, unable to bear not being at his side. Lauren, Rick, and Connie had to make up an excuse for where Mitch had gone for Jake because Mitch had told them what he told Jake on the topic of Scott's whereabouts.
Now, it was time for Scott to head home. He was slightly nervous; he didn't want to freak out around Jake. He knew he had to be normal again, but he had no idea how.
Scott gripped Mitch's hand tightly during the ride back home. He stared out the window, trying to will himself into a more stable mindset. He focused on the weight of Mitch's hand in his palm and the warmth of Mitch's body beside him.
The panic rose in his chest when he saw the familiar house. Lauren was playing with Jake outside, and he perked up at the sight of the car. "Oh, my gosh! Is that Momma and Daddy??" he asked excitedly, tugging on her hand.
Lauren laughed and nodded. "Yep. I told you they'd be home today."
When Scott stepped out of the car, Jake immediately attacked him in a hug. "Daddy! I missed you so much! How was your business trip?"
Scott's heart started to pound when he couldn't feel Mitch's touch, but he hugged back anyway. "Hey, bud. It was fine. I missed you a lot."
Jake grinned and pulled Mitch into the hug too, and Scott's heart relaxed. "I missed you both so much," Jake said, though his voice was muffled by his face in Mitch's neck. "Aunt Lauren is great, but you two are my parents and I love you a lot."
"I love you too, baby," Mitch whispered back, and Scott pressed a kiss to Jake's forehead.
"I love you too, buddy."

As the years went by, Scott recovered from his kidnapping. He went to therapy, and the Alphas were thrown into a high-security prison where no one had ever escaped.
Scott and Mitch were as in love as ever. Whenever Jake had his friends over, he often made them hide in their room because they were so disgustingly in love that it made his friends slightly uncomfortable. Jake didn't like it when they made out right in front of him either, but sometimes Scott couldn't help himself. He told Jake that he should get used to people making out because he too was eventually going to be making out with his future Omega.
Jake was thirteen now. He was in his fifth year of Alpha school, and he did well enough. He still had five more years to go. Mitch tried not to let it bother him that Alphas went to school for longer than Omegas did; he had only gone to school for three years. Then again, he very well could have been taken out of Omega school early by his old Alphas. He didn't really know.
Currently, Mitch was in the kitchen making dinner while Scott helped Jake with his homework. Mitch couldn't help but listen in on their conversation, and he wanted to cry when he realized he genuinely had no idea what Scott was saying. He didn't know what a system of equations was. Was he stupid?
Scott frowned slightly when he smelled Mitch's sadness, and he looked up at his beloved. "Angel? Are you okay?" he asked gently.
Mitch jumped slightly at being addressed and he quickly glanced over at them, but he forced a weak smile and nodded. "Yes, Alpha. I'm fine," he lied, and though it was obvious Scott didn't believe him, he didn't push him further. He didn't want to embarrass Mitch in front of their son.
After Jake finished the worksheet he was working on, Scott sidled into the kitchen and snaked his arms around Mitch from behind, resting his chin on his shoulder. "Whatcha makin'?" he asked softly, absentmindedly rubbing circles into Mitch's hipbones. Mitch tensed up at first, but he quickly relaxed and leaned back against Scott's chest. Scott kissed Mitch's Mark spot gently.
"I'm just making the salad, Alpha," Mitch whispered, tilting his head to the side to give Scott better access to his neck. Scott hummed and sucked on Mitch's Mark spot, holding him tighter. Mitch's eyes flickered Omega blue as Scott nibbled gently on the spot and bit down, and he had to bite his lip to prevent a moan from escaping. Scott soothed the spot gently with his tongue before he turned Mitch's head to kiss him.
"Um, you guys know I'm still here, right?" Jake interrupted, keeping his gaze determinedly on his science homework.
Mitch jumped and pulled away, blushing deeply, but Scott just laughed and gently patted Mitch's ass as he separated himself from him. "Sorry, bud. Sometimes I can't help myself. You'll understand when you get your own Omega."
Later that night, Scott and Mitch were showering together. Mitch had been incredibly quiet all night, and he stayed quiet as he ran the soapy washcloth over Scott's skin instead of humming like he usually did. Scott frowned and tilted Mitch's head up. "Hey. What's wrong?"
Mitch met Scott's eyes for a moment, but he soon looked away, too ashamed of himself. "Nothing, Alpha. I'm sorry."
"Was it something I did? Did I make you uncomfortable when I was kissing you in front of Jake? I'm sorry, I promise I didn't mean to."
"No, Alpha. It wasn't you. Please don't worry about me."
That only made Scott worry more, but he just sighed and dropped it for the time being. "Alright, baby, but I want you to tell me when we get in bed. Okay?"
Mitch really didn't want to, but he didn't want to anger Scott more than he already had. "Yes, Alpha."
They got out of the shower, and Scott wrapped Mitch in a towel before he got one for himself. Mitch dried himself as slowly as he could, wanting to postpone getting in bed as much as possible. Scott saw through him, though, and he gently took the towel from him to dry him off himself.
They dressed in their pajamas before crawling in bed. Mitch let Scott wrap him in his arms and pull him to his chest, burying his face in Scott's neck. "Talk to me," Scott murmured gently, playing with his hair.
"I'm stupid, Alpha."
Scott frowned slightly and looked down at him. "No, you're not. What makes you say that?"
"When you were helping Jake with his homework, I had no idea what you were talking about. I- I don't know what a system of equations is. And Jakey's going to school for ten years. I only went for three." Mitch shook his head, swallowing the lump in his throat. "I'm sorry, sir. I'm stupid."
Scott sighed and tucked Mitch under his chin. "You're not stupid. Just because you don't know what a system of equations is doesn't make you stupid. You're smart in other ways. And you going to school for only three years isn't your fault, it's your old Alphas' fault. They deprived you of so many things that you should've gotten."
Mitch sniffled and pushed himself closer. "I'm sorry, sir."
"Don't apologize. You have nothing to apologize for. I love you."
"I love you too, Alpha." Mitch closed his eyes and tried to focus on Scott instead of his screaming thoughts.
Scott rubbed Mitch's back and started to hum a soft lullaby. Back when he got nightmares from his kidnapping, Mitch would always sing him to sleep and it worked every time. Now, he wanted to do the same thing for his angel. Sure enough, Mitch relaxed instantly and let out a soft sigh. "Goodnight, Alpha," he whispered. "Thank you."
Scott smiled and kissed his forehead. "Anything for you, my love. Goodnight."
