The drive home was faster than ever since it was almost 2 in the morning and there was no one on the road. once we got to the house i opened the door and hopped on one foot to get my crutches.

"Em, sit down i'll get your crutches, God learn how to be injured."

"Mom, i can do it." of course by the time i had even stood up again she had already gotten the crutches out and propped them in front of me. i hobbled into the house unsteadily since i had never been on crutches before and made my way to the stairs.

"and just where do you think you're going?" my mom asked with that look on her face daring me to try to go upstairs. she took a step forward effectively putting herself between me and the stairs.

"up to the bathroom to get cleaned up. Duh!!" i lied trying to get passed her.

"Nice try, you can use the downstairs bathroom since you're not allowed to shower for 3ish weeks."

"Ewww i'm not going 3 weeks unshowered! that's disgusting!"

"don't be an idiot Em, you get to take sponge baths until your toes is healed. your foot can't be in water."

"can i take a bath and keep my foot out of the water? or tape a bag around my foot?"

"Em, you can't put ANY pressure on it or the bone might move. we have to go to the surgeon in a couple days to see if you need to get pins put in. your lucky they didn't take the whole thing off. now sit your butt in that chair, i'll get a pillow and some towels, this is your bed until you're allowed to walk on it again, understand?" she asked sternly.

"fine, but can you get me some water and my meds? i hurt. Bad. i mean its not like i almost cut off my toe or anything." i said trying to make light of the situation. the look she gave me showed me just how much she had been scared tonight. "too soon?"

"oh no, not at all i mean i didn't watch my daughter almost bleed to death in her high school gym. its completely fine. i'll just go get you some water so that you can take your meds and go to sleep." she said walking out of the room.

"Mom, you know i'm kidding, i have to joke about it otherwise i won't be able to deal with it later. i'm fine, and i'll be back on that board before conference." i said assuredly.

Mom walked back into the room with my water and an incredulous look on her face. "why don't you get some sleep, and we'll see when you'll be getting back on the board if at all. it depends on if you need to have surgery or not."

"ok." i saod taking the pills and water and throwing them back. i scowled at the taste but suddenly felt exhausted. i guess my mom could see that so she got to work elevating my foot and putting the towel under it so that i wouldn't bleed on the pillow or chair. then she tucked a blanket around me and uncovered my feet. the last thing i remember isher kissing my forehead before i drifted into a dreamless night.

"OWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! MOM!!!!!!" i screamed as i awoke, disoriented and unknowing of why my foot was in excruciating pain, then i remembered and the tears fell again. "mommy it hurts!!" i wailed.

"i know sweety, i know. here's some water and your pills. it'll stop hurting soon." mom said knowingly.

twenty minutes later i could feel the meds take effect.

"what time is it?" i asked remembering that tonight was the homecoming dance.

"2" she replied looking up from the book she had started reading.

i got up and crutched to the stairs. i sat on my but and started to climb up the stairs, crab style.

"What are you doing?"

"going to get my homecoming dress and stuff. i'm not missing the dance." i said steely.

"i figured this was going to happen, Em..."

"No. Mom its my Senior homecoming, i'm not missing it. period."

"i wasn't arguing, i already called your prinicpal and we made a deal. You can go, but you have t sit in the hallway the whole time."

"ok" i said.

"i know you don't want to have to si... what?" she said shocked

"i'm not arguing, i can't dance. i can barely stand."  i said knowingly.

"well before you get ALL the way up the stairs you should know that i already brought everything down... its all in the bathroom." she said with a smile on her face.

"now you tell me.." i said crab walking down the stairs again. i grabbed my crutches and went into the bathroom. it took me a lot longer to get ready than neccessary. i curled my hair and pulled it up into a half up half down do. i then did my makeup. i hadn't noticed how tired i looked until i saw the bags under my eyes and more importantly tried to cover them. i looked like i had two shiners! "Mom! can you come zip me up?" i said when all i had left to do was put on my dress and shoes.

"oh honey you look great!" she said as she zipped up my dress. i had borrowed it from tay. it was hot pink with a black boddess. it was strapless and came to just above my knee. i looked great in it and put on my black gladiator and my sexy blue shoe, as my mom and i call it. getting injured: where its acceptable to wear two different shoes. i rolled my eyes at the thought and put on my coat. it was going to be cold in the hallway. i looked at the time and saw that it was 5:30. "can we get some food and head out? i want to get there before everyone so that i can get a good seat." i said winking at her.

she rolled her eyes and went to grab her keys. i went out to the car and got in the passenger seat after throwing my crutches in the backseat. my mom got int the car and we were off.

all i could think on the way there was man this is already an eventful year.
