"OI, CHECK OUT THAT SUPER TALL FIRST YEAR GIRL." GEORGE WEASLEY NUDGED HIS TWIN, pointing at a caramel-skinned brunette towering over the crowd of anxious first years waiting to be sorted.

"She sure doesn't look like a first year," Lee Jordan snickered, looking the girl up and down. "She looks our age."

"Quit being creepy, Lee." Angelina Johnson snapped, nose scrunched up in disgust at her pervy classmate.

"He's not wrong, though." Alicia Spinnet noted, "She does look older."

"Maybe she's a transfer student or something?" Lee suggested, failing to hide his extremely hopeful tone.

"Do we even take transfer students?" Angelina asked.

Fred eyed the mystery girl curiously. She certainly did look about his age, and he found himself becoming increasingly intrigued as the group of first years became smaller and smaller as each student was sorted until she was the only one left. Instead of Professor McGonagall reading her name out like she did the other first years, Dumbledore himself approached the podium to introduce her.

"Congratulations to all the first years on entering your new houses. Throughout your time at Hogwarts, your house will be like your family." Dumbledore's eyes twinkled as he spoke, smiling at the clumps of new students seated at the end of each house table. "Now, our final student to be sorted is, in fact, not a first year."

"Nice!" Lee cheered, earning a thump on the shoulder from Angelina and a few sniggers from surrounding students within earshot.

"She is a sixth year transferring here from Ilvermorny in North America. She will be completing her final years of schooling at Hogwarts with us. I trust that you will all make Miss Allegra Bennet feel welcome."

The Great Hall was filled with whispers of things like 'we've never had a transfer before!' and 'do you think she was kicked out?' amongst other less savoury remarks from Lee, earning him yet another punch on the shoulder, this time from Alicia.

Fred watched the new girl as her cheeks turned an increasingly deeper shade of red with every passing second. She looked down at her shoes and began fiddling with her curly brown hair and toying with the sleeves of her robes.

"Miss Bennet, if you'll step forward to be sorted please." McGonagall said, beckoning her toward the stool at the front of the hall.

Allegra stumbled slightly on one of the steps before tentatively sitting down, her previously vermillion-tinted face now starkly pale. She looked nothing short of terrified. Fred couldn't help feeling slightly sorry for the girl, having the entire school whispering about her and staring intently, eager to see which house she'll be joining. As the tattered old hat was placed atop her head, Fred found himself hoping it would put her in Gryffindor.

"Ahh, yes, interesting. Very interesting indeed. I see a great deal of courage in you, yes, but I also see a very sharp intelligence and wit. What will it be, then, the lion or the eagle... I think it had better be GRYFFINDOR!"
