Chapter three: lunch, cat food and magic?
Lunch time started at 12:31. On the dot and if you didn't get there on time, you'd have to wait until every one else got their lunch. I shook my head as I ran down the empty hall way. My bag flew back in such a manner I couldn't feel it any more. I saw the lunch doors, empty and no security standing by. I checked my watch. 12:29. I was actually on time. I smiled as I skid to a stop at the lunch room doors and stepped inside the noisy high ceiling room. "Early much?" One of the securities mumbled. I nodded noticeably and walked to the line.
I got my tray but it fell to the floor. My elbows were suddenly interlocked into another two and I was hauled to the back of the cafeteria. I didn't squirm. If I was a bullied I didn't care, if it was Skys buddys, I would blow them off, In an uncaring way but nothing could prepare me to what was awaiting me at the back table.
When I was finally sat down and let free, I snapped my head up, (just to scare anyone who was in front of me so I could make a run for it) but I almost choked. The whole crew that I had seen that morning was.........staring at me?
My skin crawled as they all seemed to lean forward and grow in size. Each one of the faces infront of me, four to be exact, held a creepy grin of its own. The complete black haired girl had on a 'Arn't i cute? TELL ME I'M CUTE!' grin on. The blond girl had a 'What you got on ya'? huh? give it here.' grin. And the two boys had on a 'she's cute but....' grin. The one with the questionable eyebrow lift. "Ah, so you could join us." I looked up at Demitrys smiling face.
well, at least he's not grinning. What the hell is going on with the rest of them? I thought as he sat next to me.
I narrowed my eye's. "What are you talking about? I wasn't actually told about this..." I pointed downward at my seat. Demitry glanced slightly at the girls. They both shrugged and giggled, returning to normal. "Anyway's, I thought I was going to meet you tomorrow after school? I don't appreciate rude invitations." Demitry chuckled nervously and i blushed, covering it with an irritated look and a raised eye brow. "Actually," The short haired girl burst in. "He was talking about you a lot and said he wanted to have lunch with you so.... we arranged it." She giggled. I lifted both brows and tilted my head. She sighed and made a heart with her fingers.
"Anyway, since we took you before you got your lunch, here." The blond girl slid a tray full of food to me. The rich food. I gawked at it for a moment but then remasked my face and pushed that tray forward a bit. "You think I'm going to take charity food, more or less this kind of food, from you? And i barley know you." I narrowed my eye's. "I can get my own." The blond girl looked at the long haired guy and he smiled at me. "Oh, I see."
Oh my god. He's voice. So honey covered and slick, like a smooth talker. I swallowed my cotton mouth. it was so close to his brothers but... nothing compared to Demitry's sweet and cool tone. Though a close second. "Okay, so I'm Max." he grinned and I nodded. "That's Rick." He pointed to the guy next to him. "Yo, whats up?" with a voice of that of a laid back surfer, the cute one with 'i can ride it, just dare me.' persona. Great third. "This is Elizabeth and that's Grace." He said, pointing to the blond then the black short haired girl. Both girls waved. I curled and uncurled my fingers slowly in a wave like way.
"Well, now that we're acquaintances, you can eat." The blond girl pushed the tray full of goods toward me. I shrugged and picked at the chicken breast. "Well, since we're sharing names, I'm...." I started but i was interrupted. Demitry chuckled and then rolled out, "Charlotte." As if it were french. The girls gasped and the guys hit Demitry in the shoulder across the table. "Sorry its an inside thing." Grace said and I shrugged it off, biting into my chicken.
"So Charlotte, tell us about yourself." Rick said, also trying out my name in a different accent which sounded like Latin. " I would appreciate it if you don't do that with my name." I said, my tone of indifference over powering my actually question. Rick eye's open a bit and he shrugged as if, 'yeah sure.'
"Does that go for every one, Charlotte?" Max asked. I loved the way my name sounded in a British accent. "I guess it's all about how you use it, if you're not making fun of my name." I replied and then looked at my food. The girls laughed and I shrugged. "Anyway, I must be going." I said and got up stepping out of any of the groups grips. "I have to study, I have a test next period." I lied.
"Wait," Demitry got up and rushed in front of me. "Don't go." He stared deeply into my eye's and the urge to sit down was like gravity pulling on me by a string. I stepped back twice, very hesitaintly, then looked away from the emerald eye's. Suddenly, the gravity string broke. I looked at my watch. "I said, I have to go, you've made me late again." I said and pushed past him. "Don't make a habit of it." i threaten as i walked away. I heard the umph he let out as I gently brushed his shoulder, and I looked over my shoulder. He was looking at me side ways, almost hurt. I turned forward and ran out the cafetiria. I looked at my watch again. I'm early.
I ran out the front doors and around the school. The soft yerning sound was catching at my ear. Don't come out. Don't come out or they'll catch you. Don't come out! I turned the last building, my breath shallow and loud. I turned my head and... "no!"
The kitten hissed at me suddenly then meowed as it patted toward my feet. I bent down and petted its all black furr. It purred softly. The smile on my face cracked into a bigger one of relief. "Just two more days.... and then you can come with me." I reached into my bag and brought out the little cat food can I had stored in the small pocket as i had been doing for days now. I retched it open and laid it on the floor, watching as the small cat licked at its lunch. It made me smile.
"That's so sweet." I jumped and fell back on to my butt. I turned my head around to see Grace and Elisabeth leaning against the wall. "You could have said something, instead of running off like that. " Elisabeth huffed and looked at her nails. Grace shook her head and laughed, a small twinkling laugh. "You should have seen Demitry when you left. He almost punched Rick's light out. " She giggled and came forward to kneel down besides me. "Rick deserved it. With that smart mouth of his." I sighed and suddenly they were both staring at me. "You think this is a obserd sequence of events." It wasn't a question. I blinked and swallowed. "I know you aren't as tough and mean as you act but that's okay." She added smiling at the kitten as it meowed. "Its great to know what I was thinking." I responded and petted the black cat. The two girls where still staring at me like i was suppose to freak out by what Grace had said. I looked up again. "What?" I asked.
