Chapter Four

I was still in vice grip, but the person had switched to Jace holding me. Tony had said something along the lines of, “I have a girlfriend who’s her best friend, so me holding onto her is going to get awkward fast. Just saying.”  He still had his hands around me, but was quickly trying to pass me over to Jace. I grunted and tried to wriggle away from them when they were in the process of passing. I almost succeeded. That was until Jace found my weak spot. The center of my back. It was the one point that when pushed everything seemed to go limp in my body.

Jace found it and pushed every so lightly, like a feathers touch and that was all it took to go limp. Laying there lifeless-like in his arms; I was absolutely fuming. I was already pissed that they were trying to keep me captive, but now they knew my weakness and would try to use it against me. Not to mention that I was still half naked.

After about four minutes I regained the needed life in my arms and tried to wriggle again. “Why do you people have to know what happened? Why is it suuuch a big deal?” I whined. When would this ever end?

“We need to know because, alright now don’t freak, but you are part of a second type of being that me and Tony are also a part of. Jean is normal. She’s just human. You can read minds right?” I just nodded too shocked to make words form.  “Well, I can move things with my mind and Tony has the ability to see your worst nightmares, the horrors in your past, and make you see them. You see, we’re not what one would call normal by any stretch of the imagination. To us we are, but to the regular humans out there we’re the ‘Freak Society’, no matter what, we try to blend in. You have somehow managed to suppress your powers for a very long time. We have to know about what happened because it may be the reason that your mind-reading didn’t show up until this late in the game.”

He looked at me trying to figure me out, while Tony was in the corner, holding his head. I had a feeling he could see the nightmarish reality of my past flashing through my mind at this moment. He hissed. I guess he was at the part with the flames. I couldn’t understand why, but I believed them. I wasn’t sure if it was out of the kindness of my heart that I believed them or the fact that it was better than being in denial.

I looked up at Jace and said, “Fine, I’ll tell you guys, but you may want to let go of me, otherwise the deal to tell is off.”

Jace quickly let go of me but kept me close at hand, his tentative gaze gave me a chill of pleasure. As I was finally able to sit up straight the first thing I asked was for some clothes. “Can I…? Umm.. how do I say this? Can I have some kind of clothing to put on? This is a little awkward being half naked.” I smiled sheepishly. Tony was out of his stupor of seeing my nightmares and gave me some clothes from a clothing chest nearby. Some guys shorts and a huge t-shirt. “Thanks..” I muttered.

After putting some clothes on, I sat back down away from Jace, only to be pulled next to him again. I looked at him kind of confused. I felt tingles when he looked at me back, but thought nothing of it. After all I couldn’t even tell what he was thinking. Looking away I started my story.

Flashback, Story Time

(The end of school, the year I was 15)

“Hey guys!” I called entering the high school parking lot off the bus. Soon I would be ready to drive, I mean I already had my permit, only 3 more months. It was April after all.

I got a few heys and a big hug from my best friend, his name was Damien. We’d known each other since we were in middle school. He had moved here during the middle of 7th grade, and hardly anybody wanted to be his friend, so I said I’ll be his friend. After that we hit it off and have been best friends ever since.
