Chapter 1- Don't let anything distract you.

Location: London

Date: September 15 2014

Time: 10:28 P.M.

Scarlett crunched over the dry sticks and Shaun, behind her, shushed.

"Why are you being so cautious? There's nobody out here at this time," Scarlett said, stepping precariously over the sticks and trying not to make too much noise. Shaun had a point; she had been loud, stepping on leaves and broken branches from tree limbs that seemed to stick out in odd places, looking more like arms than tree limbs.

Shaun shrugged. "Oh, perhaps so. You-know- what's might be watching and listening as we speak," Shaun elbowed her playfully and laughed under his breath. The flashlight he was holding jerked to the left as he gestured. "Let's go this way," he said.

Scarlett-out of habit- bit her lip. It had been one thing to sneak out when her parents were asleep, but when Shaun had told her he wanted to look for vampires, she had thought it was some excuse to go to a bar or something. But, no. Shaun had meant actually looking for vampires. She finally sighed and shook her head. "Shaun, you're more trouble than its worth,"

He smirked his trademark smirk that made him look more like a kid with messy hair who liked to play in dirt more than a teenager who liked to get into trouble. His brown hair was rumpled and sticks and twigs were intertwined in his dark curls. He needed a haircut badly, she noticed. His eyes were the same radiant color of blue she remembered from the first time she had met him, sitting on her doorstep in the rain. She as asked him why he was sitting there alone and he'd said, "Just looking at the rain," she remembered it as if it were yesterday. Scarlett had smiled and brought an umbrella with her as she walked out the door as had sat with him. "What's your name?" She had asked him. He had replied with, "Sebastian. But everyone calls me Shaun,'' he had on the same exact smirk as he had now.

"What?" Shaun asked, looking down to see if perhaps his pants had fallen down without him noticing so. "Why are you staring at me like that?"

Scarlett shrugged. "If were gonna find

these vampires, we'd ought to get started," she said smiling. As a master at fake smiling, she knew how to keep her eyes light so it seemed she was really happy and how to keep her teeth showing the tiniest bit.

Shaun shrugged and lead the way down the narrow path.

He paused once, and held back a thorny branch for her to walk through without getting hurt. "Ladies first," he said politely. Scarlett scoffed.

As she stepped forward, she felt her foot slip on something wet and she fell backwards, crying out. Shaun caught her before she fell onto the ground. He was holding her as she half-stood, dazed, as she stared into his blue eyes. She had always wondered what they would look like up close...

Suddenly, a twig snapped.

Scarlett's head jerked toward the sound, half- relieved and half-disappointed for the diversion. She jumped out of Shaun's arms and asked frantically, "What was that?"

They both looked around and for a moment, complete silence was the only thing that passed between the two.

Then, a vampire lunged at Scarlett.
