BL Manga must-reads (Part 1)

In the notes section you'll find a little rant about European comic culture, why I love comics so much, what I look for in a good comic, etc. (If you feel like reading it.)

If you're one of those who has never bothered to read comics - you really should try.Novels aren't the only forms of expression when it comes to literature. A well written comic is just as rewarding as a book - with the plus of being enhanced by visuals. There are some BL comics out there, that beat most BL novels by horse lenghts.

These are a few of my favourites, that I really, really want to recommend.

All titles are readily found at various manga-reader websites. Google!

To illustrate what I like about the art of my favourite mangakas, I will add art samples for every artist on the list.

Observe: I fucking HATE "yaoi hands" and "yaoi chins". HATE! (Therefore, you will be sure to see some mentions of chins and hands...)

Listed alphabetically by mangaka. (Note that I write the names in correct Japanese style, last name first.)

The titles are listed by their native names, even if many of them have well known English names. I use the English title only when the original one is in English.

🎨 = Art I find particularly great

📖 = Great story/stories

🔥 = Graphic and/or a lot of sex in some/many/all stories. (The absence of a flame doesn't mean there is no sex, just that it's not the main thing.)

❤ = Very little or no sex - focus on emotions - more like shōnen-ai

🌟 = One or more story you really should not miss.

⚠️ = Slight trigger warning (I don't read nor recommend shota/nonconsensual/incest nor other nasty stuff - but some of the titles may contain elements that some may find disturbing. Though, I avoid those comics, so generally it won't be present.)

🆚 = Versatile - since it's a thing I (and many others) actively look for in BL, I might as well mark the mangakas that have VS couples in some/many works. (I'm so witty, using the symbol för "versus"...)

The list snowballed into a huge chunk of text - I was not planning on writing so much about the mangakas, but surprise, surprise - as if I can ever stop my babbling...

So I'm going to break it up into parts - I already had to chop away like 20 mangakas and I had about 10 more planned...

ASOU Kai: 📖 🔥 🌟

Great stuff! Lovely stories and I like her simple but pretty art. (Those horrible manga chins are there, but since Asou's art is nice overall, I'll forgive her the chins.) Even if the style is plain, I still think it pops out among all the other "plain ones." I guess it's just unexpectedly expressive for the level of simplicity. The soft lines suit the stories well and is pleasant to the eye.
