"How did this happen?" My mom asked. I stared at her and told her exactly what I told the doctor.
"Somebody broke in late at night," I said. "I panicked and tried to sneak out of the house, but all the crashing from downstairs startled me. The person destroyed so much. I fell down the stairs and hit the desk next to the living room. That's all I remember, but Declan and Dominic came over to check on me because they knew I was home alone. They said the person was gone when they arrived."
"Did you scare them away?" My dad asked as he leaned forward in his chair.
I shook my head. "It might have been Dominic's truck that alarmed them and the person got out before they entered our house."
"We'll call the police and we'll find this person." My dad said with his arms crossed.
Hopefully, you never will. I thought.
"We need to get the house cleaned up." My mom said.
"I've already called a cleaning crew." My dad said. "I'll head over in soon to help sort through things. We'll hopefully have it cleaned up before Ava gets home."
"It's going to cost a lot." My mom said as she crossed her legs and placed her purse on the table.
My dad shrugged. "It's nothing we can't afford."
"I guess." My mom replied. She turned back to me and folded her hands. "When did your friend move here?"
"A while ago," I responded as I took a sip of my lemonade.
"Do you know much about him?"
I shrugged. "A few things. His dad is a pastor, but he lives with his mother."
"Anything else?" My mom asked with her eyebrows furrowed. I shrugged again. On a personal level, I didn't know him that well.
But you will. I thought. Dominic and I were definitely connected now. In ways, even some of my friends and I weren't.
"He's smart and caring," I said.
He also, along with Delcan, saved my life. I thought and wish I could express just how kind he really was.
"That doesn't tell me about his background." My mom stated. "Is he a good student? Does he act out?"
"He is a good student and I doubt he acts out," I replied.
"She just met the boy." My dad put in.
My mom shook her head. "What if she ends up dating him?""Mom!" I said. "I love Declan."
"You're not even 17 yet." My mom stated with a frown. "You don't know what love is like? I'm not saying that you and Declan will break up. I'm just saying he did seem to have an attraction to you."
"We didn't even have a conversation in front of you."
My mom sighed. "The doctor told us that there were two boys here with you the whole time. He also said that the dark haired boy helped you get back to your room once. When he was in here before, he seemed ready to assist you with just about anything."
"Mom, this isn't Twilight," I argued and crossed my arms.
"Maybe not, but that doesn't mean that boy isn't interested in you."
"Can we not talk about Ava's love life right now?" My dad said. "I'm sure she'll do the right thing."
"Okay." My mom agreed, but her eyes remained on me.
"I'm going to go back to the house and get some work done." My dad announced and stood. My mom followed.
"We'll be back later." My mom said.
"Alright," I mumbled as they left.
Just like usual.
