"I present to the stand, Detective Toris Laurinaitis." Yao hummed, leaning against the stand.
"How're you doing today, detective?" Yao asked, knowing small talk made idiots feel more comfortable.
And then they spill.
Lawyers oldest trick in the book."I'm doing okay, thank you." The green-eyed male replied. His Lithuanian accent was very heavy, and it kind of made him seem cuter than he should've for being a detective for murder.
"So detective, you were at the sight that fateful night last year. Am I correct?"
"Yes, sir I was." Laurinaitis replied, resting his chin in the palm of his hand. "I was called to the homicide case."
"And what did you see?"
"What everyone else saw. Two dead bodies and a weeping, bloody, Alfred F. Jones."Yao paused, looking over at Alfred. Alfred was currently invested in staring at the table like it was talking to him. Maybe he was on some drug. Who knew. Alfred was unpredictable.
"Now, he was..crying?"
"Full fledged sobbing. Yes, sir."
Yao rubbed his palms together, facing the jury."It's been scientifically proven through many tests that Sociopaths and Psychopaths cannot feel for another living thing. Therefore, it would be strange for a killer to be crying so hard if he was a little...not there." Yao argued, seeing Natalya jump up from her seat.
"Objection, your honour! Alfred F. Jones has already been proved to be unstable! Yao's point doesn't prove a thing!"
"Woah princess, be careful to not be so feisty." The Chinese man winked, causing a groan and recoil of disgust from the Belarusian woman."Overruled. Yao, be mindful of the points you're proving." The judge warned, crossing his arms. It was like two kids running for class president. Made him wonder why he chose the job in the first place.
"Right. So..Alfred's clothes he was wearing, they were bloodied from the scene. Yes?"
"Of course, he was coated in blood and perhaps over substances." Toris answered, very quiet from being far away from the microphone.
"What substances are we talking about here?" Yao asked, leaning in to the standee. "Drugs? Alcohol? Perhaps some sort of excrement?"Alfred blushed heavily. Was Yao insinuating he pissed himself at the scene? That's nice of him. Very nice indeed. (Alfred wasn't very happy that this was being talked about).
"I- I don't know," Detective Laurinaitis blushed, hiding his face a bit.
"You don't know? And why is that? You're a detective who handled Alfred's case until Detective Arthur Kirkland was appointed. Surely you'd have control over the forensics report." Yao bit back a smirk. The detective bit his tongue, sighing heavily into the mic before mumbling something.
"Excuse me? Is there something you're trying to say? You're going to need to speak louder, Toris."
"There was no forensics experts on this case." Toris finally admitted, hiding his face a bit. This surely shook the jury to the core.Alfred's eyes widened. No- No forensic evidence? At all? No tests were done? That was great for him! That was evidence that was definitely needed for the defendant. And they had nothing. Natalya had nothing. Glory day!
Arthur's eyes shot wide, he could barely stifle a laugh. That's the lousiest detective he'd ever seen. Who doesn't get forensic experts on a double homicide?
Amateur. After calming down, Yao continued on with his standee. This was fantastic. This was such a good leverage.
"So..You're saying you didn't test any of Alfred's clothing? So he still could be in possession of key evidence for your case?"
"That's exactly what I'm saying."
Oh, this is good.
