20: Court 3

Alfred never saw Arthur after that incident. A full six months passed without seeing the Brit and truthfully, he was going insane.

He was mean, cold. He was bitter to any officer that came near him. He nearly got his sentence lengthened after an incident where he punched another prisoner. Bitter.

However another date was set in mind. The final court visit he would have to attend for his case. The jury had been talking and he'd been in and out of the court room over the last three months.

He got dragged in to the court room, the bright sunlight shining brightly in his eyes.

"Goddamn that's fucking bright." He grumbled, rolling his eyes. The officer shoved him into a chair, Alfred glaring up at him before moving away from the prisoner.

Alfred looked around, noticing Arthur nervously smiling and slightly waving at the American.

A wad of spit was gulped down as the cerulean eyes met the emerald ones. He snapped his eyes away, shaking his head. No. Why did he have to be here. Why.
Why did he have to be behind him?

"Alfred, please. Look at me, talk to me." Arthur whispered, and Alfred could tell the male was crying. Why now did Arthur have to show up?
It hurt, incredibly. It was torturous seeing the Englishman so pained. He looked sickly. Unkept. Tired.
Why wasn't he taking care of himself?

Alfred slowly turned back towards the Brit once again, biting his lip. Gulping down any words he could say to the other, and Arthur smiled a bit hoping to hear something, Alfred had to turn around as the judge began speaking.

Yao noticed Alfred's strange behaviour, raising an eyebrow. "What's up with you, Al? You seem so different."

The American shrugged. Yao knew why. Alfred knew the Chinese man was aware. So he didn't admit to it.
He didn't admit that he wanted to hold Arthur close and tell him he loved him. Just one more time. It was killing them both.

"Well, Mister. As you can tell my client will plead not guilty to the double homicide." Yao Wang defended when the judge asked how Alfred pleaded.

The Belarusian woman stood, shaking her head. "Objection!"
"Why..?" Yao asked, tilting his head.
"Overruled." The judge replied, rolling his eyes irritably. He just wanted the case to end. It was annoying.

Suddenly the jury, which had been previously discussing their ruling on Alfred's case, joined the court room once more. That means they'd discussed a verdict.

Alfred's throat went dry, fingernails digging into the table as they came out. He tried to remain calm but he couldn't help but freak out just a little. He could go to prison for the rest of his life. He didn't want that. He couldn't live like that. Not forever. He'd already lost so much.

Arthurs eyes widened. He didn't expect the jury to have come up with a verdict so quickly. There wasn't much evidence that was still credible. There wasn't a witness, only detectives. And people called to the stand were biased. Everywhere the case was loaded in falsities. If this didn't go Alfred's way, a mistrial would be claimed immediately. Obstruction of justice.
Perfect.

A Spanish man approached the judge, speaking some words with him before walking back towards the rest of the jury, paper in hand. He was a bright thing, smiling happily as his hand remained tight on the document. Alfred's hands began to perspire. Arthur's throat was dry.

"After months of discussion, day after day we reviewed Mister Jones case. Having to overlook false witnesses and planted evidence we had plenty to gather." The Spaniard started, the Belarusian woman perking up with a small smirk. She just knew where this was going. Alfred was going away forever. Good.
