Prom is only a month away and I don't have a dress to wear. That realization made me shoot up in bed.
The week after Aiden asked me to prom went as usual. It never occurred to me that I have less than a month to find a dress and the majority of stores are probably running low. It was a saturday meaning I had two full days to go shopping.
I texted Aiden good morning and then called Adeline.
"Hello?" She was surprisingly chipper this early in the morning.
"We need to go dress shopping today."
"Camryn, I have a dress. Wait, do you?"
"Well"
"Prom is in three weeks you fool." I should've known that was coming
"I know. So, are you busy today?" There was a minute of silence and then I heard her let out a breath.
"I'll be over in twenty minutes get ready." I squealed from excitement
"Thank you Addie"
"Yeah, yeah."
We got off the phone and I rushed to get ready. I threw my hair into a bun and slid into my favorite jeans. I grabbed a clean t shirt and left my face bare.
I met Adeline outside and both jumped into my car.
"Wait, if you have a dress why haven't I seen it?" "
"Camryn, it has been hanging up in my room for two months."
"Oh." Now I feel like a complete idiot
"Times like this I actually hate you." I blew her a kiss and we both laughed.
Adeline and I went into every dress store except for one. We stood outside of the last one and I was too scared to go in.
"Knowing my luck I am going to walk in there and there will be nothing even remotely cute."
We walked in and I noticed how much emptier the store was than usual. Addie and I split up hoping to have a better chance of us finding something.
After almost two hours of searching the store, it was time for them to close.
"I have to close the store in about fifteen minutes so is there anything I can help you with?" The woman working was nice but I was beyond stressed.
"Prom dress. I need a prom dress and I have looked at every dress in here and I can't find one I like.""Well a friend of mine has a daughter who was supposed to come by and look at the dress." she talked as she walked to the back of the store. "She never came by and she is awfully bratty anyways. Wait here for just a second."
Adeline and I waited and she gave me a weird look. I shrugged my shoulders as the women came out with a white dress bag. "This is a one-of-a-kind dress because every other dress made like this was in white. She unzipped the bag and I could already see the black lace material. It had capped sleeves and a deep neckline.
"How much is it?"
"It's $450." My limit for my dress was $400 and then $50 for shoes and jewelry.
"I'll have to budget but can I try it on?" She handed the dress over and I looked at it in awe.
"Go ahead and try it on, I'm going to flip the sign to close but please take your time."
I all but ran to the dressing room and hung the dress up. I looked it up and down. It was a beautiful black lace dress. It had the perfect amount of sparkle and cute capped sleeves.
