Virgil was having a relatively normal day. He didn't hang out with anyone. Or talk to anyone. At least until Statistics.
He walked in, and Roman was sitting in his spot, looking forward and talking to someone in front of him.
He probably forgot about me.
When he sat down, Roman turned to him, and-
RRRRRIINNG!!!
-Mr. Sanders walked in, with a lecture.
Now don't get Virgil wrong, Mr. Sanders is a good teacher, he's just incredibly boring.
He started up on a lecture for how to solve a type of math equation and why this class is important to the future and blah blah blah.
Roman just stayed facing Virgil and whispered to him.
"I'm sorry about yesterday."
Virgil smiled. Roman didn't forget about him.
"I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have run off like that. It probably scared you but don't blame yourself. It's my fault."
"No it's not! It was my fault for embarrassing you like that."
"Well I should have-"
"Virgil. Would you mind coming to the front of the classroom?!"
He stiffened.
This was not happening this was not happening this was not happening.
Virgil slowly stood up, and walked to the front of the class.
"Now, Virgil, would you mind telling me how to solve this problem?!"
Virgil looked at the board. He hadn't been listening and he could feel eyes burning into him. He dared to take a look at the class, and quickly looked back at his feet.
This was not happening this was not happening this was not happening.
Suddenly, Virgil couldn't breath.
"M-mr. Sanders, cou-could I use the bathroom?"
The teacher looked pissed, but still nodded.
Virgil ran past everything, just trying to get out of the room.
He made it to the bathroom before he broke down. He sat against the wall sobbing and having trouble catching a breath. His vision was blurry, and he was sure that his tears were messing up his makeup. Oh god. He didn't want anyone to see him like this.
Then, suddenly, there were arms around him.
"Hey, hey it's ok, Virgil. Look at me. Breathe in. Breathe out. It's ok. It's gonna be ok. Breathe in. Breathe out. It's ok."
Virgil was slowly getting his breath back. He grabbed onto whoever was helping him, and just quietly cried into their shoulder.
Eventually he had run it of tears, and he was almost back to normal.
It was Roman who had helped him. Roman did care about him. Roman didn't forget about him.
Virgil smirked.
"Aww. So you do care about me, Princey."
Roman smiled back.
"Of course. I wasn't going to let Anxiety get the best of you."
They just sat there together, silent, for what felt like hours.
And then Roman spoke up.
"We can't go back to class. You look like a mess and after what just happened you probably don't want to anyway. Any ideas on what to do?"
Virgil shrugged, then his face lit up.
"We could go sit outside, and watch the rain!"
Roman laughed, and Virgil scowled.
"What? It calms me."
Roman finished his laugh, and stood up.
"If the rain calms you, then to the rain we should go."
Virgil suddenly burst out laughing. Roman had spoken with his "prince accent" and done a heroic pose.
Roman just smiled, and held out a hand to help Virgil up.
Virgil took his hand and stood. Then, still holding Virgil's hand, Roman started sprinting down the hallway, pulling Virgil with him.
"Hey! Slow down! Roman!"
Virgil could barely keep up.
Roman pulled him outside, and then he reluctantly let go of Virgil's hand.
And then, for the second time in the past few days, Roman did something that surprised Virgil.
He walked right out into the rain.
And started dancing.
Virgil was sure he was a blushing mess, but he hoped that the dark skies and messy makeup hid it, at least a little bit.
And then Roman held out his hand.
Virgil started to go through all the ways that this could go wrong in his head.
And then he looked into Roman's eyes.
And he took his hand.
They spun and danced and laughed until they heard the final bell.
And then Virgil stopped, gave Roman a hug, threatened him if he ever said anything, and said goodbye. He just hoped his dad wouldn't be mad at him.
What if his dad heard about him skipping class?!
He ran toward the hill, and slid down it, running towards the only car parked there.
He opened the passenger seat and climbed in. He then turned to look at his dad.
He was a mess. His hair looked like it hadn't been combed and he looked like he'd been crying.
"Dad..?"
"Virgil, I was worried about you! You can't just run off like that and not tell me what your doing or why you skipped class today! I've been calling you nonstop!"
Virgil pulled his phone out of his back pocket. He'd gotten so caught up in everything that he forgot about it.
Sure enough, 642 missed calls from Dad.
"Sorry dad. A lot of stuff happened. I'll tell you later."
"You better have a good excuse for missing out on your good education, kiddo."
"I do. I'll tell you when we get home."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
Virgil watched as his dad started the car and started driving. He pulled out his phone, unlocked it, and noticed it was on contacts.
On a new contact specifically.
Roman
He smiled and a slight blush rose to his cheeks, as he changed the name.
Princey <3
