[Present]

Days passed after Valentines death.

It was starting to get a little too quiet around the institute. I think it's just the calm before the storm, Alec seems to disagree. And that's only because he wants a break.

Me and Clary are currently training when we hear that Alec has an big announcement. Everyone gathers around as Alec congratulated each of us for the great duties we all have fulfilled defeating Valentine and his unlimited amount of effort, to try to turn everything around. He continues to preach about the fact that we all stayed focused, even though there were some bumps on the road, and through all that we accomplished something tremendous. He seems to have mentioned that we have a new member joining the institute. Clary and I pass a look. This new girl has purple hair, odd eye colour, average height (but taller than 5'6) and she looks pretty fierce. I think we're going to like her. But don't judge a book on it's cover, am I right? She introduces herself as Zariah, she makes a quick appearance and then goes off for first day training.

Lucky for me I get the first hand of getting to know this new girl, considering I am training her for the day. I walk across the halls to the room Zariah and I are working in. I start to walk quicker because I happen to be a bit late. Before I can even step foot in the room I see Alec talking to Zariah, I just assume he is properly welcoming Zariah into our institute so I just wait outside until their conversation is over. It wasn't long after Alec walks out and greets Zariah goodbye.

"Hi, I'm Izzy!"

"Nice to meet you! I'm Zariah, the 'newb'"

*giggles* I set my belongings off to the side.

"I'll be training you for today only. And that's only because your trainer, Jace, is in a meeting."

"Okay that's cool. At least I get to meet a bad ass girl, in which I may add can actually kick ass in heels. At least that's what I hear."

"Well I guess you'll find out."

I raise my weapon to gesture the fights about to begin, but then Zariah raises her hand to say: "Not without music." Then laughs. I think I'm starting to like this girl. She seems pretty cool, until she turns on this bomb ass music, that just get's me going. I feel motivated.

"What's this?" I ask, looking stupid.

"It's my favourite beast mode Spotify playlist. Doesn't it make you feel more...alive, more hyper, more motivated!"

"Hell yeah"

And we start to fight. My usual weapon was my long staff, and she uses a Manriki chain. She's tougher than I thought she was, just by her first hit. I knew I had to bring my A game. We start going at it, but all I can think about is I want to actually get to know this girl not just know how good of a fighter she is so I ask her where she's from. And she just shrugged it off and says she prefers to talk after the work and just stay focused. I don't take it personally. She then side kicks me, which leads me falling. I then sense she wants to fight bear handed, so I slide my staff across the floor and get back up on my feet. I feel as though we are moving in slow motion, every move is just in sync with our bodies. We both get some good kicks, good punches, and just overall good hits. Then after several songs we decide to call it. We are both breathing heavily and soaking in sweat. I feel my heart racing faster then any other training day I had. It was a good feeling. We both grab our towels and wipe down our skin then start chugging down our water. I look over to Zariah as she drinks her water then squirts some water all over her face to refreshen herself.

"Venezuela." She said fidgeting with her towel.

"Pardon?" I was confused, since she named a country out of the blue.

"Venezuela. You asked where I was born, remember?" Then the memory came back to me. Of course, why must I have my stupid moments.

"Oh yes! So, was there an institute back home?" I decide to ask, because there are institutes all over the world, but plenty of people must relocate since there isn't one near them.

"Sadly, no. People just fought when their duty called." I was some of what confused. How did she know when she had to fight, how to locate enemies, and most of all who brought her into the shadow world?

"Were your parents Shadowhunters?" She then starts to get a little shy about the topic. I think I may have touched a soft spot.

"My mother was a Shadowhunter but wasn't dedicated, so was my father but he was attacked by a werewolf, after the first five years of my life I never saw them again. But I lived with my grandmother she was one of the greatest Shadowhunters that I've ever seen, she became an Iron Sister in the early days. Bernadette Macai?"

"Wait! You're granddaughter of Bernadette Macai?!"

"Yeah...Zariah Macai. I kept the family name, she was special."

"Zariah...your grandmother. She- she's more than special, if there's even a word for that."

"I tried there is no word."

"When's the last time you saw your grandmother?"

"Four years ago."

"I wish I had the answer as to how. But she was an angel. Like a pure angel."
