(Chapter 5)(on the bus)
(Sadie's p.o.v)
I sat here with Eric. I was looking through pictures again. I heard him smirk as he was looking through the shoe box. "What?" I asked. "Your daddy, sleeping half way under the couch." he says. "He wasn't sleeping, he was trying to reach the nail polish remover, he would drink it when mama threw away the booze." I said. "You took a picture of him like that?" he asked. "No, mama did.""I was crying because I knew he was gonna drink it once she left, she thought he was grabbing it for me". I say. "Oh, I'm sorry". He says. "Its alright, there's a lot of pictures she took that shed never know the truth of". I say.
I had my ear buds in blaring N.W.A.
Hey I grew up in the 80's don't judge. I was packing my suitcase. Today was the day I'd leave this house.
I looked at the walls and sighed. This was it. I zipped up my suitcase.I turned around and saw a figure in the doorway of my bedroom. I screamed. "Chill its just me ". Eric says.
He had just walked right into the house. "How did you get in here?" I asked while trying to get my breathing back to normal. "Key under the mat, you told me about it last week". He says picking up my suitcase. "Come on we're gonna be late." He says as I pulled my Barbuda out and tossed my iPod into my purse. Technology was way different than it was when daddy was living. But I missed the old days. Maybe being on the road would cleanse my soul a little bit.
At least I hoped it would."Come on woman your slow as molasses in the winter time". He says. I rolled my eyes. "Look don't start okay, cause I can easily tell you fuck no I'm staying here and you can do your little tour on your own". I say.
He smirked and held the door open for me. I walked out to the bus with my purse/backpack on my side. I turned back to watch Eric lock the door for me. I looked up at the house I had grown up in and had so many memories of. Maybe it would do me good to leave it.
Move away somewhere. I sighed and walked up onto the bus to see all of Eric's crew. "Oh, boys". I say looking at all the men. Eric got on the bus behind me and slightly nudged me forward. "Guys this is Sadie, Whitley". He says. I went pale. He revealed my name. "Eric I told you its Sadie Keith". I said trying to hide my irritation with him. "Your Keith Whitley's daughter?" One asked. "Yes Craig she is". Eric says.
"Kenneth Eric Church, I told you not to reveal my name, I won't get into the business that way and you know it.""I mean I'll get in but not on my own terms". I said sitting down beside one of the guys as the bus began to head out of my driveway. "Okay, Ms. Whitley ". He says. I glared at him. "Don't make me hurt you". I say pointing a ringed finger at him.
He grinned at me.
