"Why even bother?" Paulo's teammate questioned as they both got out of the locker room showers. Paulo turned to look at him as he dried his hair on a white towel. Paulo hadn't seemed to age. He had the look in his eyes, the same one he had when when he was twenty one, "You know she's your daughter."
Paulo looked at Gonzalo Higuaín. His green eyes holding a glint of angst and desperation. He was right. Why even bother? His heart told him that the little girl was his. How couldn't he believe it? Celine had never given him a motive not to believe that she wasn't. Though it was actually the opposite. He had been unfaithful to her. He was the one that had broken the promises. Part of him didn't blame her when she left. It was his fault that her heart was crushed. Yet, he believed that she had no right to had taken away all those years that he would never get back. He lost years of being able to see his daughter grow up into this brilliant little being- he was sure that Celine was doing a marvelous job at doing so.
He knew why he was going out to get the paternity test done. He wanted to prove her wrong, that he wasn't feeding into her lies. That it was taking her nowhere, "To prove her wrong." He stated, as he pulled his denim jeans on, "I need her to know that I know that Salomé is my daughter." There was something that was so delicious about winning. About winning against his lover- the same one he hurt. The same one that in a way, by doing all of this was hurting him the way she hurt.
The older Argentine frowned. It was some sort of twisted game the two lovers were playing with each other. It had two possible endings. They either fall back together or they don't, "Pau, listen." Paulo was quiet. His stomach was doing backflips knowing that today was the day he would get those test done, "You can't do something stupid-"
"I'm just trying to make up for those years she took away." He finally confessed. Salomé had no fault for what he did to his mother when they were younger. He just couldn't quite understand why would Celine ever try to hurt him by denying him his daughter. Paulo was already aching enough with not having her no longer, "I know that I hurt her. Pipa, you have to understand that Celine was my world, and I destroyed it. She's hurting me by keeping my daughter away from me." Paulo breathed out. He had been so helpless after Celine left him. A hole in his heart was so visible and there was nothing, no other woman that could ever fulfill him the way Celine did.
Gonzalo sighed, patting his teammate in the back. He hadn't met Celine, but by the way Paulo always spoke of her. How much he learned to love her and how he never once found someone that could ever make his heart feel alive like she did. It made him feel like she knew her from years back, "You're going to be an amazing father to that little girl." He only spoke, a proud smile on his lips.
Paulo smiled, meekly. He didn't know how good of a father he would be. He worried that he wouldn't live up to any sort of expectations his daughter had, "Thanks." He mustered. Gonzalo nodded, leaving Paulo and his thoughts.
This was no League game or any Champions Legue game. He went from being just a football star to suddenly being a father to a six year old. His world was a complete 180 degree change. He had spent all day that Sunday after he left Celine's home looking for furniture. Redecorating his guest room, so it could be fit for his daughter.
Paulo had just gotten off the phone with the designer when he pulled into the parking lot. There his eyes landed on Salomé and Celine. A smile widened as he watched his daughter hold her mother's hands as she skipped along with her. Celine turned to look at Paulo, her brown eyes narrowing at him before she quickly turned to look at Salomé.
"Where are we going, mama?" Salomé questioned, as they both halted so Salomé could tie her black vans. Her mother had matched with a pink tulle dress and a printed top. Her brown hair pulled into two pig tails.
