Chapter 36

They have been at the police station for more than an hour.  Taylor and Serena have already given their statements and been let go.  It’s not that simple for Santo.   The Italian police are still holding him.  His recent activities in the United States and London have come to the attention of the Italian authorities and they have some concern now that today’s incident has occurred.    

The police report they ran on Santo Donati alerted Det. Hernandez.  He contacted the Italian authorities and proceeded to try to convince them that Santo is dangerous and being looked into for the murder of an attorney, Raymond Samuels. They also receive a report from the FBI advising them that Mr. Donati is currently working on a case for the FBI.  As a result the police are still holding Santo and Alberto has been called by Sergio.  They haven’t seen Reese, he is remaining in one of the interrogation rooms with Santo.

A well-dressed man enters the police station.  He’s wearing an expensive dark blue Italian suit and shoes.  His hair is streaked with grey at the temples and his skin is a deep rich olive color that makes the ring on his large hand very noticeable when he firmly shakes Sergio’s hand.  His carriage of confidence as he strolls through the police station draws several eyes to his handsome presence.  When he speaks, the timbre of his voice holds the attention of the police officers and they respond immediately to his request.  Sergio puts his phone away and walks over to the women with the indomitable man following him.

“Taylor, Serena, I’d like you to meet Santo’s attorney, Mr. Salvatore Gomati.” 

“Thank you for coming so quickly Mr. Gomati, has my brother been arrested?”  Serena ask the same question Taylor has.

“I do not want you to be concerned about this.  Your brother is being held for questioning.  The man involved in the incident with your brother was found to have several weapons on him and there is a warrant for his arrest in France and New York City.  It is being investigated that the incident that occurred here is a part of another investigation your brother is working on with the American’s FBI.”    Taking Taylor by the hand he kisses it and replies “Now, you must be Taylor.” 

“Yes sir, I am.  Does this mean you can get Santo out of here?”

“But of course, there is some opposition from a Det. Hernandez from the New York City police however, it is my job to make sure the Italian police understand that Santo Donati is not some thug they can mistreat.” I ask that you be patient, he will be walking out of here shortly.” 

The attorney’s confidence rubs off on Serena and Taylor and they both perk up a little knowing someone is here to help them.  Mita and Mario walk in and apparently already know who Mr. Gomati is.

Mr. Gomati is escorted through a secure door that buzzes him in.  He gives them all a large smile just before he is escorted out of their sight.

Mita grabs Taylors hand then Serena’s and holds onto them.  “Don’t worry so much Mr. Gomati is a badass, he’ll get this straightened out.”   She squeezes both their hands for reassurance.

Mario puts his arms around both women’s shoulders hugging them close to him and they both hang on.  “She’s right, he’s saved my ass a time or two when I got into scrapes.  He’s always taken care of us.”

Twenty minutes later Reese is buzzed through the door.  Serena runs to him hugs him and he wraps her in his arms as he passionately kisses her not caring that others are around and watching.   Taylor watches their interaction and she can see the love between them.  Reese holds her hand as they walk over to where Taylor and the cousins are waiting.
