Chapter 47
Taylor closes her sketch book she feels the baby kick again as she slams the pencil on the table. It rolls onto the floor. Frustrated she gets up to move the chair trying to see where it rolled to. She’s on the floor picking it up when Julian walks into the room.
“What are you doing? Is it time, has your water broke?” He frantically reaches for her helping her up.
“No, calm down grandpa. I think this kid is already in control of my life. I can’t sleep, I can’t focus to draw anything. I’m just…..” Taylor sits down in the chair Julian pulls out for her.
Santo is unable to come to grips with her going to that warehouse without telling him about it. He told her she doesn’t trust him with her heart. He’s back to coming in late at night after she’s asleep if he comes home at all. Taylor is fed up that he won’t talk about how he feels. He doesn’t believe her only reason for going to that warehouse alone was to confront her biological father about her mother’s death. He doesn’t want to upset her while she is pregnant so he goes along with whatever she wants to do.
Julian thinks she is thinking about her relationship with her biological father. “You need to go see him. Talk to him and get it over with. Maybe now with everything that has happened he will tell you the truth. Sweetie, he’s going to be in prison the rest of his life possibly in another country. You need to resolve things between you and Clayton.” Julian sits next to her holding her hand.
“How did I get so lucky to have you in my life? I love you old man, you know that don’t you.” She grabs his hands pulling him forward for a hug.
He kisses her forehead. “I know that baby. I love you to. I’m so glad you and the baby are alright. I have to tell you I was feeling like I had let your mother down.” He sniffles.
“Julian….dad….what…Why?” Taylor isn’t sure what he means.
“I blame myself for not telling you the things I found out about Nathan when you first got involved with him. Maybe if I had told you, this wouldn’t have all happened.” Taylor doesn’t like seeing the man that raised her look so defeated.
“You listen to me. You did what you thought was best for me. We’ve gone off the road a few times on our journey together but what a ride huh. Focus on the good. This anxious one is going to enter the world soon and I’m going to need you to be the best grandpa you can be. Got it?” She reaches across to kiss him on his cheek.
“Got it.” He shakes his head laughing at the visible movement he can see of her belly. The baby is very active. Julian places his hand on her stomach.
“See that, that’s grandpa my sweet…that’s you’re grandpa.” She coos as she holds her hand over Julian’s on her belly.
A furrowed brow mars Julian’s gentle face. “Taylor, you should take Santo with you when you go see him.” He says firmly.
“I don’t know if he will go. Communication between us is still strained.” Taylor gets up from the chair.
“I don’t understand this. You love each other, you’re going to have a baby together. Santo loves you. What could be the problem?” Julian ask her.
“I’m not sure I can explain it. It’s mostly my fault. Santo thinks because I left him in Italy I was coming back here to find Nathan. He believes there are unresolved issues between me and Nathan. I guess my recklessness has caught up with me. I’ve done a lot of foolish things since I met him. Maybe my impulsive behavior is costing me him. He hardly comes home at night.” There’s a catch in her throat.
