Happy Birthday

Emma awoke from her dreams with a kiss. From her father, telling her "good morning my Princess... Did you forget what today was?" Emma sat up in her bed, her face looking puzzled as she racks her mind for what the day is. Her mother came is, and in a sing-song voice, begins to voice, "happy birthday to my love, for today is soon gone, all our love is for yooooooooou, it's another year to be true!"

They sing this to her every year, on her birthday. And every year, she mimics her mother's beautiful melodic voice. "I hope I can sing as beautiful as you when I grow older mother." Snow picked her up and swung her around in a circle. "You're getting so big! I can hardly lift you up!" Charming slid her from her mother's arms down onto his lap, and he pulled a box out from under neath his chair. "A little something to grow into." He said with a smile on his face. She saw the pink box with the 'Emma-sized' blue bow on it and sat it on her lap and slowly unfolded the sides of the box. "Oh father!" She said excitedly, as she slid her new glass slippers to the floor so she could place them on her feet.
"Oh no you don't." Charming said, as he lifted her from his lap and placed her in his chair as he knelt down onto the fur rug on the floor. He slid off her slippers and one by one placed the slippers on her feet. "I feel like Cinderella Daddy!" He smiled and as she stood up, her hand maiden came in to show her, her new dress that they made her especially for her birthday. She ran to her closet to change.
As she finished changing, she looked into her mirror at herself and spun around. Letting the baby blue dress, bell out and spin til she got dizzy. Her glass slippers just tap, tap, tapping as she spun. Her father picked her up, and placed her feet on the toes of his boots, and she heard music start to play. Her father danced with her, and spun her around, and around, and around. Her curls bouncing, and silky golden hair billowing with the breeze. "I love it mommy and daddy! So much! Thank you thank you thank you!"

Her mother pulled her into a giant hug, and then sat her on her own lap.
"I have one more thing for you My precious Emma. Something my mother gave me when I was your age." And Snow handed her a small silk pouch. Inside of it was a necklace with a locket on it. Inside the locket, it slid open to 3 pieces. On the left was a small picture of her mother. The right was her father. And in the middle, was the 3 of them. It was gold, with 3 diamonds on it, and a pearl in the middle. For her birthstone. She was so excited! In her mind, all she could do was wait to show Baelfire tonight in her dreams. And with all of her excitement, she didn't even remember about her ball.

A few hours later, as she waited to go down the spiral staircase, to see all the lovely faces of the town she loved so much, and the people from it, she still only longed to see her best friend. And as she heard them call her name for the third time, she got up from her chair, and started to make her way down the staircase. Wearing her new dress, and new powder white gloves, she slid her hands down the stairs case railing and she slowly went down the stairs. All the eyes on her, hearing the "Oooh's" and "Awww's" She smiled, and blushed a little. She loved this day more than any day of the year. Because, she would invite all the towns people to her ball. No matter their station, and let them eat as much as they wanted. That was her gift to them on her special day. She shared with them always, but today, it was her only wish for her birthday. To give them all what they don't have. She would find what the other children didn't have, and get them new things. And parents things to make them happy as well. And she was happy.

By the time the ball was over, she was exhausted and couldn't wait to sleep. Not even thinking about tomorrow, she jumped into her bed, let Snow sing her to sleep, and Charming sang as well, she closed her eyes and fell away. To sleep... to fall through the clouds in the midnight sky, and to the land where the lost children play all night. She fell to neverland.
