Chapter 3
Who's to know the lies won't hide your flaws...
-Seether
Two days had passed since Wrath was attacked. When the siblings had come back they told me that there was no sign of anyone entering, or leaving the tunnels. Whoever the person was, they were extremely good at covering their tracks and hiding. Hearing a groan, I looked over to Wrath who began to move. Once Wrath opened her eyes I was at her side and making sure she was alright. Having changed her bandage about 4 times over the past two days I suppose you could say I was extremely concerned.
"How do you feel?" I asked already knowing she probably wouldn't be feeling too great.
"Honestly, I feel like a truck ran over my head multiple times," she mumbled. I looked at her with sorrow in my expression. Before she could dwell on my depressed mood I turned and got a half empty bottle of pain killers.
"I know this isn't much, but it should help with the pain." I told her. She smiled slightly and took the bottle from me. Watching as she opened it and took two pills, I looked down in shame remembering that it had been my fault she was injured. Having not questioned that girl's presence or tried to stop her, Wrath had been hurt.
"I'm so sorry Wrath." I mumbled quietly. She looked at me curiously. No doubt wondering why I was apologizing.
"What for? You didn't do anything wrong Vipes." She told me, worry in her voice. That made sense; I would worry too if my friend was apologizing for something that he/she didn't do.
"That's the point. I didn't do anything; I didn't stop the person who hurt you." Getting up preparing to leave so I could go out again and find the person who hurt Wrath. However, before I could move, I felt her grip my wrist preventing me from leaving.
"What are you saying? I was attacked by a person that none of us had known, or even seen before for that matter." She defended me, trying to make sure I wasn't beating myself up. I turned to face her allowing her to see how red and puffy my eyes were. Her gaze softened and she pulled me into a hug. I wrapped an arm around her in my usual one-arm hug.
"I'm sorry I couldn't protect you Wrath. And I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier. I'm just not in the right state of mind." Honesty rang in my voice when I spoke. Knowing I wouldn't say anything else, she remained silent.
"It's alright Viper. You made sure I was alright when I was hurt, and took care of me while I was out. Besides, you can't protect us all from every little thing right?" She concluded trying to lighten the mood. I pulled away slightly and smiled a little. Hearing the others coming I stepped back. Wrath looked at me curiously and I mouthed, 'the boys'.
Smiling, she ran out to greet them. Hearing shocked voices soon followed by laughter, it all felt like everything was back to normal. Walking out of Wrath's 'room' slowly and quietly, and walked up to them, and the triplets tensed.
Looking at them I whispered, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you all. I just wanted to make sure Wrath was alright and was mad at myself." After I finished I turned and headed back to my section of the tunnels and sat against the wall like I had two days ago. The only difference was that I was on high alert. I didn't want that girl to get back in and hurt my family. Soon enough I heard footsteps and tensed further. That was until I realized that there were three sets and not just one. I looked up and saw the triplets; giving them a sad smile before looking down.
"Look, Viper, we accept your apology-" Wolf began.
"Yeah, and we aren't mad at you," Sean continued for him.
"We understand that you were worried for Wrath, we all were." Damon finished. Looking at all of them I offered a small smile and hugged them all, whispering "thank you" as I was genuinely happy they didn't hate me.
"Wolf I know you're still sort of mad at me. Sean, I'm really sorry I snapped at you. Damon, I know you're still mad as well. So, if you would like, we can spar 3 to 1." I finished looking at them all, showing them I was serious. Wolf walked up to me first, I waited for the answer anxiously.
"As much as I would like to, it's not right to hurt family. Even if it's just sparing" He stated while smiling. Sean and Damon smiled and agreed with him. I smiled slightly and suggested we all go back with the others and just hang out like old times. They all agreed and we walked back to where they left Kaine and Wrath.
