A few weeks later, Lucy was deemed ready to check out of the hospital and I convinced her to come with me to London.  She made an amazing recovery, but her eyesight never fully recovered, she had to wear glasses for the rest of her life, and even with them she couldn't quite see things clearly.  Considering her state though, having only glasses and scars as  permanent aftereffects, she did amazingly.  I was over the moon that she was still with me.  That she was alive.  When we got back to London and got Lucy settled in, we fell right back into our usual schedules.  Record, write songs, do interviews.  But now everything had new purpose.  Now I had Lucy by my side.  The fans fell in love with her just as I had, and that meant the world to me.

Then came the night we played in the O2 Arena in London.  Lucy had taken the evening off work and had come to see the concert.  Butterflies in my stomach, I called her up on stage.  No going back now.

Lucy's POV

I hadn't the slightest idea what was about to happen as I walked up on to that stage.  My head was reeling and I knew it was going to be big, but I hadn't a clue what it would be.  Looking back, I was a fool, not to have guessed.  But I am a fool, this boy makes a fool out of me, and somehow I don't care.  As I climb up onto the stage, I see Louis, the boy I've loved since I was a child, smile at me with that mischievous smile that had gotten him into so much trouble as a child.

He sat me on a stool center stage and turned to the crowd.

"I think you all know Lucy, right?" he said, receiving an affirmative scream as a reply.

"Well, you all know Lucy is very special to me, but I'm not sure you know how special she is.  Lucy and I grew up together.  We were inseparable, and then, I left to x-factor and got involved with all the craziness of you folk..."  Louis was temporarily drowned out by screams.  When they had somewhat quieted down, he continued.  "Anyway, when I left, I made a promise to her.  I promised that no matter what happened that I would come back for her.  That no hell or high water would keep me from coming back for her.  And I was almost too late to fulfill that promise.  She was lying on her death bed, and she survived.  And while Lucy was recovering, Harry and I wrote a song.  I think most of you know it by now, it's called 'You and I'" once again screams drowned him out.

"We're going to play 'You and I' for you all now, but this time realize that this was written about a time in my life where everything was crumbling around me and the girl who got me through it."

Louis' POV

We started the song and while Niall sang, I looked as Lucy, trying to gauge her reaction.  When I saw her face, I couldn't help but smile.  She was grinning ear to ear, her eyes were ablaze.  I came in and sang my bit, never taking my eyes off her.  This was the girl who I would walk to the ends of the earth for.  This was the girl who held my heart.  As we finished the song, I walked up to Lucy and said, "Lucy you know I love you, and I know you love me.  But I think it's about time we make it official and let the world know.  Would you do me the honor of becoming my girlfriend?"

She looked up at me, shook her head slightly and stood.  "Of corse I will, you doofus," she said.  I wrapped my arms around her and in that moment, everything was perfect.  And I knew, as long as she was in my arms, it always would be.

This was always going to be just a short story, but I didn't think it would take so long to write 5 chapters! Well anyway, THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH! catch ya on the flip side!
