//Authors Note// Here's something quick before the chapter starts. So this wont be a very good chapter, because for some reason my computer decided to delete all my saved progress on here T-T. And I'm currently writing this on my way to-and probably from, depending on what time I have- school. Anyways, I don't have time to edit anything so please bare with me for a moment
*Thomas's pov*
I averted my eyes for a moment as James was struck in the back of the head. His body crumpled to the ground, and I lunged out to catch his limp form. He landed in my arms, a moment before he hit the ground, and I couldn't put away the burning feeling of guilt in my chest. He hadn't done anything to deserve this. I didn't want this for him.
I mean, he just had a fucking panic attack.
I sighed, and looked up at James's attacker, while keeping my pose on the ground.
" Lee.." I said flatly. I hated Charles Lee. He was always barging into things he had no right to be included in. At least I knew he was there this time. Lee was always running errands for the boss. He never said what he was doing, and never spoke a word about where he was going next. A bit of a loose cannon that one.
"Jefferson..." Lee said smirking a bit. He knew I didn't like this. He stood there with his baseball bat, the 'weapon' used on James, with a smug look on his face.
" What the hell are you doing here Lee?" I asked him, hoping to get an answer this time.
" Nothing of your concern Jefferson. Besides...you have something to keep you preoccupied at the moment.." He stated gesturing to the unconscious James, still in my arms.
" What do you mean Lee?" I asked, my brow furling together. Just what was he getting at...
" Get rid of him Thomas. I don't care where. Make sure he doesn't walk away from you alive" Lee said in a dull tone, while turning around. " He can't be allowed to leave". He stared to walk away, but tossed something over his shoulder. I let go of James, and caught it with my left hand. I looked down to see what I had caught.
A loaded gun.
I was supposed to kill James.
" ......"
" See ya later Jefferson. Oh yeah, if I come back and see that guys still alive...you'll be hearing from the boss. Don't let him down Thomas. Because it wont fair well for you" He hissed back at me, and walked out of the library, the door slamming behind him. I looked down at James, still unconscious in my lap. His breathing seemed to be fine...for now at least.
I slid myself from under James, and stood up. Then I carefully picked up his fragile frame, as one would carry a bride. I sighed and took one last glance around the building. We were in a library. I hadn't noticed that. I guess I was to busy running for my life to notice...
I loved libraries when I was younger. Now I disliked them. They made me think back to when...she was still alive. They brought back once good memories, gone sour. I turned around and swiftly fled the library. I walked...I mean we walked down the sidewalk for what seemed like hours. Though it had only been a matter of minutes. Holding James in my arms didn't bother me very much. He didn't seem to weigh much. I thought back for a moment wondering if it might be a side effect of those pills on his desk?
It was dark out. So I wasn't concerned with any onlookers seeing us. As long as I stayed away from the police station, we'd be fine. I tried to think of other things as we neared our destination. I couldn't think of what would happen when it came time to shoot the gun, hidden away in the waistline of my pants. I was to scared to think. So I just continued walking.
