I get back home to my empty apartment. It's silent. But my head is yelling with thoughts.I swore on my entire existence that I saw something different. But I couldn't tell if it was real or not. I've only had this once before, but instead I was looking at a slice of cake and I obviously knew nothing happened.
But this, this was different. My mind wouldn't stop racing at the thought. If I tell anyone, would they even believe me? Probably not. I used to date a guy in high school, but I couldn't see colours. I thought it took a while for your eyes to adjust, so I stayed with him...Until he dumped me a week later. My mom told me that it takes a while for your vision to adjust but you'll know instantly that it's your soul mate when the time comes.
But, was he the one?
"Y/n? Is that you?"
My head jolts up from the floor to meet the voice. Standing at the end of my hallway is Peony, a uni friend. Her black hair meets up to her shoulders, her bangs pushed to the side by her large round glasses. Her flowy light gray dress had small dark black flowers embroidered on the ends.
"Hello Peony," I finally say, "What are you doing here?"
"Your roommate invited me over to study for finals soon," she states walking into the kitchen, waving me to follow her.
"Oh alright."
She takes the kettle off the stove and fills it with water, "Would you like a cup of tea?"
I shake my head with a slight smile, "Just had some coffee."
She pauses before putting the kettle back onto the stove, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, Peony, just," I think for a second, "tired."
She nods her head, "Well if you need anything, don't feel afraid to ask."
I nod my head and walk out of the kitchen. I take off my damp shoes and my raincoat, placing it on a hanger before putting it back into the hallway closet. I make myself to my room quietly. I set my phone down on my dresser and sit down on my bed, still trying to clear my mind.
"Y/n?"
Ugh more socializing, I think before turning my head towards the door to see Dodie standing in the frame. I smile a bit to let her know I'm listening. She walks over and sits down next to me.
"Peony told me you were sort of out of it, are you alright?" Dodie asks with concern. I think for a moment, do I tell her? Should I? I look at her in the eyes and mentally prepare myself.
"What if I told you I saw something different?"
"Well where we live is a pretty weird place, I wouldn't be surprised if you did."
"No, no," I say with a small chuckle, "I saw a different colour."
She looks at me with a puzzled face before the realization finally came to mind for her. "Really?" She smiles widely.
"I think so."
She squeals quietly so Peony doesn't hear, "I'm so happy for you! Who is he?"
"I- I don't know," I say looking down, "He just left. I hardly caught his name."
Dodie's smile drops a little, "I'm sure you'll find him, considering this is a small town."
I nod my head before she starts to talk again, "I'll let you be, you seem like you have a lot on your mind. I'm having a couple friends over tonight to study and hang if that's alright."
"Yeah, sure."
She smiles at me one more time before giving me a hug and walking out of the room.
What a wild day it's been.
