Chapter 18: Jared's POV

I tapped my pencil on the desk, watching the seconds hand on the clock tick by slowly. I started bouncing my knee and chewing on my lip, not once letting my eyes leave the clock. I glanced down at my phone, but sighed in disappointment again. James still hadn't replied to the text I had sent ten minutes ago.

"If you don't stop that, you're going to lose your mind." Laura, James's best female friend, whispered to me, violently. She put her hand on top of mine and put her foot on top of mine to stop my movements. I looked up at the clock again and found that I only had three minutes left. Come on, Clock! Move!

The seconds ticked by, slowly, but finally- The bell rang. I grabbed my stuff and ran out of the room, rushing to James's classroom. Yes, I knew his schedule. I stood outside the door and watched him take his dear sweet time placing his belongings in his bag. I cleared my throat and he looked over his shoulder. His face turned bright and he smiled at me, rushing to put the things in his bag.

"You can have your phone back after school, Mr. Waters." His teacher said to him and he smiled sheepishly at me, again. I took his hand and helped him down the hall, smiling like a fool while he winced in pain because of his wound.

"My phone got taken away. Otherwise, I would have replied to you." He glanced over at me before sliding down in front of his locker, pulling out a lunch bag. "Let's eat lunch right here." He mumbled and took a big bite of his sandwhich.

I slid down next to him and watched him eat his food, but didn't bother to get my own out. I wasn't hungry, anyways. I just wanted to watch this amazing boy next to me eat his lunch. The way he just ignored everyone when he took a bite. James always had a thing with eating. He loved to eat. It was like a super strong passion for him.

"You okay?" James gave me a weird look and I laughed, then nodded. He continued to stare at me oddly for a moment then went back to his sandwhich. I looked down at my hands for a minute, just concentrating on his breathing and his motions.

I remembered that I had a Sharpie marker in my backpack and pulled it out. James barely glanced at me, until I layed down on my stomach, face over his cast. He tilted his head and smiled at him brightly before slowly writing on his cast in my most neat handwriting.

James, I love you and I hate that you got hurt, but I'm glad you're okay and I want you to get better soon and yeah. I love you so much. You saved my life. I am forever in your debt, baby.

I signed my name with a heart, then capped the marker and slipped it back into my backpack. James attempted to look down and read it, but when he couldn't, I laughed at him. He stuck his tongue out at me before going back to his sandwhich. I smiled and grabbed his hand.

The bell rang just as he finished eating and I took his bag, throwing the trash away, then came back and helped him up. He grinned and grabbed his crutches before hopping to his locker with me on his side. I smiled to myself softly, carrying his backpack on one shoulder and mine on the other.

"Don't you have anything better to do than follow me around and make sure I'm okay?" James paused and looked over at me. I rolled my eyes and bumped him forward, motioning for him to continue walking. He did.

"James, you're my number one priority. You should know that." I leaned over and pressed my lips to his cheek for a short fleeting moment and whispered in his ear, "I love you."

He grinned, brightly, and his cheeks turned a light pink. I smiled and walked him to my car. Once there, I opened the door for him and helped him climb in, then put his crutches in the backseat. As I was walking around the back of the car to my side, I spotted someone turn the corner, the faint flash of a black boot being the only thing I saw. Huh. Weird.

"You okay?" James said as I entered the car. I stared out the windshield for a minute before turning to him and nodding. I started the car and pulled out of the parking lot, then drove to the hospital. James had to do weekly check ups and I promised his mom that I would take him today.

"Do I have to go?" He whined and watched me. I didn't bother to look at him, because if I did, I wouldn't look away, but I knew he was pouting.

"Yes, you do." I pursed my lips as we finally reached the large white building. He groaned and chugged down a bottle of water before rolling his window up and unbuckling his seat belt. I parked the car and climbed out, then went to his side of the car and opened the door for him. I opened the backseat and got his crutches out then helped him out of the car.

"This sucks." He pouted as we made our way up the ramp to the big glass doors. I rolled my eyes and nudged him in through the door. He stuck his tongue out at me then we walked up to the receptionist. He gave her his information and she said we had about half an hour before his apointment. I helped him to the chairs and we sat down.

"So, do you know what you do in there?" I mumbled, flipping through a magazine. He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck before responding.

"I think he, my doctor, just checks to make sure the bones are placed right and are healing correctly and such. You know." He waved his hand around and nodded. I chewed my lip and stared at the wall, then looked around. It was a sad awkward silence.

Once James was called in for his apointment, I found myself thinking about the call I had heard his mom having. I didn't know what to think about it, to be honest. I just.. I was worried and scared. He would be furious if he found out that I knew about it before he did and never told him. And with my luck, he would find out.

My phone started ringing and I fished it out of my pocket and stepped outside, pressing answer. It was just a friend was the basketball team. He wanted to know if I'd go to a party this weekend at his parent's lake house. I said sure, as long as James could go too. He agreed.

I went back inside and sat in the chair just as James came out. It had only been about a half hour since he had gone back. That was short. I spoke my thoughts. He just shrugged and silently went out to my car. I furrowed my brows, but followed him and did my usual help out routine.

He turned to face me, "Why didn't you tell me that I'm moving halfway across the country?"

Uhm. Dunno how interesting that was. I have kinda sorta writer's block. It might be a while before I get to the next set of chapters but I'll try to make 'em better and write more. I know this was very short and I fail. ;-; Uh. But pleease vote/comment/fan?c: Thanks.
