[Chapter Twelve]
Elora's Point of View
On Friday afternoon, I arrive at Ember's house with Elias and a mysterious feeling dwelling inside the pit of my stomach. I've heard snippets of hushed conversations about something which has me intrigued.
Elias has been acting abrupt and agitated. Something terrible must be about to happen. There's a difference between Elias pretending he's a hard arse and then him actually filling the role.
So, I need details. I'm doubtful that Ember is going to sprout information in regards to their randevu. I know the three of them won't spill the beans, but if I happen to overhear something, that would work in my favour.
Without knocking, Elias opens the door and walks inside. I follow him downstairs to an underground room. It's dark from the dim light bulb attached to the ceiling, but the bright desk lamp captures my attention.
Gunther is hunched over a desk and a large piece of paper sprawled across the desk. Past of the paper wafts over the side. In the background, Ember sits motionless opposed to Slayton and Ashton play fighting.
"She's for you." Elias points at Ember.
In that moment, I'd gone from his baby sister to a package being delivered.
Gunther's attention briskly snaps to my direction. I straighten my back as his eyes glow with excitement.
"You're back!" He grins.
"Yes." I thoughtfully nod. "Ember and I have an assignment to work on."
"Or are you here to see me?" He winks.
"How's therapy going?' I innocently question. "Have you worked out your perplexed issues yet?"
"Non-members aren't allowed down here," Gunther growls in response.
Ember moves around the desk and grabs my arm. He quickly tugs me up the stairs and away from Gunther.
"For hating Gunther, you sure like antagonising him." He sighs. "You know it only makes things worse, right?"
"But it is amusing," I fondly admit.
"Come on, let's get to work before you get us into serious trouble."
When we arrive in Ember's bedroom, he grabs the guitar resting on his chair and takes a seat. I hesitantly look around the room before nabbing a seat on his bed.
"This is what I have so far!" Ember strums his fingers over the cord and music begins to play. I don't understand the chord progression, but the music sounds pleasing to the ears.
"A wonderful start, but I feel that it needs lyrics."
Ember stops playing to ask, "Do you want to work on those?"
